South Africa / Agnes Paterson -- is she mine ?
« on: Monday 30 January 23 11:57 GMT (UK)  »

Family rumour has it that Agnes Paterson born 1869  Stoneykirk Wigtownshire left around 1890 and went to South Africa.
I have her until 1888 when she was bridesmaid at her sister Janet's wedding
On family search there is a marriage for an Agnes Paterson to a James Hastie on 2nd July 1895 in South Africa.
James died  aged 51 on 1st July 1915 in Durban
Agnes  died aged 81  there also on 10 March  1951  and is buried in Stellawood Cemetery .
Are there any other sources which might  help me prove that this is the  Agnes I am trying to find ?
Thanks

If you contact Mortonhall Crematorium in Edinburgh they hold all the burial records for Liberton  cemetery.

Sorry I don't have any more details of how to contact them as I'm not at home at the moment .

Fife / Re: James Kemp Watson

There is a birth in 1945 in Gourock of a person of that name .I don't think we can have the name on here as the person might still be alive.
You would have to order the cert. from Scotland's People  to find out the details -- it will cost you approx. £12  unless there is someone on here who is going to one of the centres and could do a look up for you .
I could not find a marriage or death in Scotland for this person is it possible she returned to Wales where her mother was born?

Hi According to the valuation rolls A.K. Watson Captain was the tenant/occupier of Avenue House and Garden in Gifford  East Lothian for the years 1916/1917 then James was the tenant 1918/1919 it reverted back to A.K.Watson in 1920.

There is are two deaths for Andrew Kemp Watson on Scotlands  People   in Yester or Gifford in 1921 aged 62 and in 1959 aged 68 in Athelstaneford both are in East Lothian

Hi,
James Kemp Watson was born in 1895 South Leith Edinburgh he married Harriet Smith Anderson also in South Leith in 1917 --she died in 1917 in Colinton all Edinburgh.
The only death that fits in with James Kemp;s date of birth is in Greenock and in was in 1962

You can download these certs. from Scotlands People at a very reasonable cost and it will give you more info. on his parents etc.

The cemetery were she is buried or the crematorium will have the date of death on their records.
