Trying to find the death of one Alfred Ernest MATHEW. Details to date are ….

Born 1879/3  MATHEW Alfred Ernest Mile end, Old town ref 1C544

Married 1905/4   CONNAH Lillie to MATTHEW Alfred Ernest      Mile End 1C706
MATHEW Alfred Ernest      Mile End 1C706a
(Note there are 2 entries for Lillie’s marriage to MAT(T)HEW in the registers,
see scan 1905M4-0228.jpg)

Child born 1914/2 Cissie rose MATHEWS at Bow m=CONNAH ref Marylebone 1A953
Cissie Rose’s B/cert shows Father = MATHEWS living at 11 Q Peabody Estate, ships pantry man ).

1919/2   CONNAH Lillie (widow) married  FLEMING William Henry at St Geo, Hanover Sq 1A1293

I have always assumed that Mathews was killed between 1914 and 1919 probably in WW1. However, I have never been able to find any record of his death.
There is 1 record as follows but why would he be in Staffordshire in 1915 if he was in the navy ???

1915/1   D   MATTHEW Alfred Ernest at Cannock, Staffordshire age 36   6B660

I have the 1911 census details for him, he was separated from Lillie and living with his mother at that time.

Any help greatfully accepted and much appreciated.

Hi,
What did base-born mean in the mid to late 1700's.
Was it still born or illegitimate ?

Many thanks,

Buckinghamshire / HICKFORD John help please
« on: Wednesday 22 February 12 01:41 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to trace one John H(I/E)CKFORD born about 1750-1772 in the Bucks/Beds area.

John had at least one child, James born circa 1792-1795 at Little Brickhill.
James’s occupation was “horse help” or “horse keeper”.

From  James’s marriage cert. John’s occupation was given as “labourer”.
A co-witness with John was a  Sarah Hickford.
It is believed that  Sarah was John’s wife and that he married Sarah about 1790 though this is not yet confirmed.

It would be very much appreciated if anyone can supply information on any of these characters, (especially John), as this is the only “hole in my family tree from 1570 through to my grand children.

Cheers,
               Phil.
