Merionethshire / Catherine Arthur
« on: Wednesday 01 February 23 15:08 GMT (UK)  »
Llanaber, 22 Nov 1776

Catherine ARTHUR - spinster - otp     m   Evan EVANS - bachelor - of Llandecwyn

They baptized 6 children in Llanaber, viz:-

24 May 1783   Griffith
27 Oct 1784    Elizabeth
26 Mar 1787   Margaret
15 May 1789   Susannah
07 May 1790   Philip
30 Apr 1794   David

Was there really a gap of 7 years between their marriage and the baptism of their first child, or were there baptisms elsewhere which I'm missing?

Where was Catherine baptized? Could she be one of these:-

29 Mar 1742 in Dolgellau

08 Jul 1748 in Llandrillo?

Both seem to me to be too far away.

Can anyone help, please?

Cardiganshire / John EVANS
« on: Monday 14 November 22 17:35 GMT (UK)  »
John EVANS, a gardener, claims to have been born in 1811 in Llanbadarn Fawr or  Llanfihangel-y-Creuddyn. He married Ann EDWARDS on 25th Sep 1835 in Llanbadarn Fawr.

A search for his baptism has yielded several possibilities, two of which seem more likely than the others, viz:-

27 Apr 1811 to Richard & Margaret

14 Aug 1811 to John & Margaret

and I cannot separate them. Can anyone help, please?

Staffordshire / Thomas RATCLIFFE, 1850-90
« on: Tuesday 04 October 22 17:25 BST (UK)  »
In Q4 1856, Thomas RATCLIFFE m Emma ALCOCK in Cheadle, and the family appears in the '61, '71 and '81 censuses in Cheadle.

In Q4 1885, Thomas RATCLIFFE m Margaret HILL in Stoke, and this family is recorded in the '91 in Stoke.

I assume that Emma RATCLIFFE (nee ALCOCK) died between the '81 and late 1885, but I have been unable to find her death. Can anyone help, please?

Cardiganshire / Rees JONES, Tregaron
« on: Tuesday 16 August 22 16:42 BST (UK)  »
Rees Jones married Margaret EVANS, 13 Dec 1835, in Tregaron.

Rees was born ca 1815, Margaret ca 1818.

Rees's occupation was 'tailor'.

I have found them and their family in '51, '61 & '71, always in Tregaron, but I cannot find them in '41, by which time they had at least 2 children, John (1837) and Mary (1840).

Can anyone help, please?

Devon / GILBERT/RALEIGH 16th century
« on: Wednesday 27 July 22 11:59 BST (UK)  »
Probate was granted on the will of Katherine RALEIGH (nee GILBERT) in 1595. It is believed that she married George RALEIGH ca 1545 somewhere in the Torbay area and that they had at least 3 children:-

Apr 1547   Kateren RAWLEIGH   bap  Stoke Gabriel
09 Jun 1563   Thomas RAYLIGH, son of George   bap Tiverton St Peter
21 Dec 1567   George RAULEIGH   bap  Withycombe Raleigh

Probate was granted on the will of George RALEIGH of Withycombe Raleigh in 1596.

I've failed to obtain copies of the above wills.

If anyone can confirm, refute or add to the above I should be most grateful.

Cambridgeshire / Catherine HYMAS
« on: Friday 22 July 22 09:17 BST (UK)  »
Catherine HYMAS was baptized  01 Aug 1790 in Castle Camps, her parents were John & Ann.

A search for the marriage of John HYMAS and Mary XXXX has been fairly un-productive, and the best I've been able to find is:-

12 Nov 1788   John HONESS to Mary BARNS   at Welney

My guess is that this is the marriage I'm seeking, but I should be grateful if anyone could suggest a better option, please.

London and Middlesex / Elizabeth KING
« on: Thursday 02 June 22 11:42 BST (UK)  »
According to the '71, Elizabeth KING was born ca 1868 in Bethnal Green to William & Emma, and I have:-

09 Jan 1863   William KING    m   Emma MEAD   in Shoreditch

A search for Elizabeth's birth has given me:-

Q1 1868  Elizabeth KING   in St Luke, London    mother's maiden name  REID

All the dates and locations seem to fit perfectly, but, I can find no marriage between William KING and Emma REID.

So, who is Elizabeth's mother, Emma MEAD or Emma REID? Can anyone help, please?
