For anyone tracing Archibald (Stewart) McLachlan this is a link to the Ragged School/Reformatory based at 46 Rose Street, Inverness. http://www.childrenshomes.org.uk/InvernessRfy/  The school closed in 1885.

Hi Fifer
Was interesting to read about Speirs Wharf, and see the photos.I used to live up that way. I also remember the Man who would control the canal bridge. I also knew a Girl (Aileen) who lived near the Canal. I lived up the top past that House by the canal (Mary Street), and I went to the Normal school. I left Glasgow in 1956  Great to see the photos brought back memories.

That's me  ;D I remember Mary Street well.

interesting link Fifer thank you.

I wonder where the cholera victims were buried in Greenock/Port Glasgow. I a hoping there might be a list of burials or something like it.

Unlikely during an epidemic, mass graves/speedy burial to prevent further spread of the disease.

Very likely as there were several outbreaks during that decade [Potato Famine] in Northern Ireland.

Yep 1847-1848 in Glasgow http://www.scran.ac.uk/scotland/pdf/SP2_3Health.pdf
