Hi Folks,

Thanks for your replies  :)
doddsie4 - where did you find those details ? I couldn't but I assumed he must have died because he isn't shown on any census entry
it could be him although the birth was registered under surname Gray. Census entries are all under surname Russell. The youngest called William and although the census surname used is Russell, the birth is under Gray
Sancti, - Thomas' parents stayed together after 1855 and I have both death certifictes. On his father's death cert , the parents have names of William Gray Russell & Elizabeth Russell, but does show he was illegitimate. His father was called William Gray
Imogen55 - I never thought about Isabella going home to have Thomas, although her parents died in Airdrie too , so it's not as if she was going home to her mum, unless they didn't come to Scotland until after the birth - can I find that out ? Her parents were Joseph Pew & Eliz Shanks

maybe they were confused , I don't know - all of the children's deaths are under the surname Russell !!

any ideas why a family would change their name ? This is the RUSSELL family in New Monkland - there is more than one family and I don't think they are related ! I have Daniel Gray Russell who was illegitimate ( William Gray & Elizabeth Russell were parents) born 1829 . He seems to be registered under Gray from the details I found. When he married Isabella S Pew, he married under Gray. I found census details for the family under Russell, for 1861,1871 & 1881. I also discovered that most children they had were registered under Gray, although my grt gran, Elizabeth Gray Russell wasn't and she wasn't eldest or anything, so don't understand. When Daniel died, his death is registered under surname Russell, as are the other children.
Another problem is that the cenuses show a son called Thomas , but I can't find his birth . His dob is around 1853/4 .I did find a son called Robert Shanks Russell Gray , dob 1855, but can't find him in censuses nor can I find a death under either Gray or Russell
Can anyone else help or have ideas ? Thanks in advance

Roy_L thanks for that and I did indeed find some info there. The Beck family seem quite difficult to get information about . The birth I was looking for would have been around the 1800 mark, but I had assumed I would get the death but can't find it either. I was trying to find out if there had been a soldiers garrison there in Dromore as my 3rd grt grandfather is shown as a soldier but can't find him at all - only find his name and occupation on a couple of his childrens marriage or death certs. No birth and no death, and I assume that the marriage certs don't say if the father is deceased by then either

Hi Dougmc, sorry to bother you - you were going to send me some info. I found the link to Proni will search and I found Samuel Beck's will with Dorothy mentioned - it can't really be a co-incidence and I expect she is mine- at least I have found confirmation she exists. I tried to save the will pages from Proni but they turned out black background with white writing. If you have any info, I'd really love to see it - thanks in advance , Elspeth

Hi,
Are you aware that John Jardine's will, complete with image, is available at PRONI and on-line. It lists many of his family. See http://applications.proni.gov.uk/DCAL_PRONI_WillsCalendar/WillsSearch.aspx

Regards

Hi Kingskerswell ,
I want to thank you very much for that link...I too have Becks in my family tree and Dorothy Beck was married to my 3rd grt grandfather john Beresford/Beresfield and they stayed in Dromore. I have searched loads of records and couldn't find her, but I have now. Just need to find the husband - all I know is that on his children's death certificates is that he is shown as a soldier

Stirlingshire / Wilson Family from Plean, St Ninians, Stirlingshire
« on: Sunday 24 November 13 20:55 GMT (UK)  »
I've been doing some work on my paternal side and discover that I can trace my tree back to a John Wilson and Janet Laird both of whom seem to come from Plean. I found John's birth in 1794, in Plean. Census records say the family came from Plean or St Ninians. My grt grt grandfather is one of his sons called James, who ended up in Airdrie, married to Mary Love. She seems to have come from the Clackmannan area originally. Funny thing I've noticed from posts here, are Wilsons who seem to have moved to Larbert from Plean area. Funny thing is that my gran called Janet Marshall came from Larbert and I have no idea how my grandfather would have met her. Just wondering if he had family up there. Also wonder if anyone can shed light on these names. I tried to find Janet Laird in Register House a couple of weeks ago without success, but will have another try next time. Just really hoping for some info ...thanks if you can help out    Elspeth

Yes please Dougmc,

I can't find a single thing about Dorothea anywhere.
There are plenty Becks in Dromore, but no birth or even marriage dets or death.
She married John Beresford ( name registered under different versions such as Berrisfield, but changed to Beresford in Scotland, so I don't know what the real name is) He was a soldier, but I know nothing more than that.
If you have information, I'd be both grateful & delighted at the same time.
PS I can find nothing about him either !!
