Pauline,
Try the gazettes online for the Winslow Boy.  If he was in any way famous, he might have his name mentioned.

I checked a London Street map from the 30s but couldnt find Aynhoe Rd. Maybe someone with a later map might have some more luck.

Good luck.

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Re: LUCE LONGBOTTOM!!!!!!!!!

Joe,
Have you tried freebmd with just the first name, ie: Luce and Births. See what surnames come up and then do a bit of cross referencing with some marriages. Might be worth a try. Good luck.

Bob,
Have you looked at the site.
historicaldirectories.org
Its quite slow, but is filled with all sorts of interesting information. You might just find mention of your ancestor.
Good luck in your quest.

Armed Forces / Re: Did Army Schoolmasters live in or out of Barracks?
« on: Saturday 02 April 05 13:40 BST (UK)  »
Im talking the mid 1850s. 1881 British Census has him in Portsea, but from 1864 to 1873 he was in the East Indies according to the birthplaces of his children.  I think Ive Googled every possible Army Education Corp there is, but still am none the wiser.
Thanks for the help.

Hi Marie,
This is a tip I found in a book for finding Nonconformist or Dissenters places of worship. Ask the advice of the local history librarian in the nearest large public library. or the archivist in the relevant city or county record office. who should have this knowledge at his or her fingertips.  Between 1754 and 1837 one clue  in the Nonconformist allegiance of individual families is to find an Anglican marriage and no subsequent baptisms of children. (Although the family may have moved or been childless) The local record office, should be able to tell you which non-parochial registers exist, and where they are, it may even have some of the originals. Following civil registration in 1837 all non-Anglican denominations were approached to have their registers centralised with the Registrar General.
Hope this might be of help.
Sheldon.
