Thanks everyone. I'm new to this so I don't understand some of the references you've given.
The info I have comes from our Public Trust Office in NZ who contacted me some years ago re a legacy from one of Thomas Dickens' grandchildren.
That info gave me Thomas Henry Dickens b. 4 June 1941 Stourport, d. 13 August 1927 Waihi. M1 - 23 March 1862 Caroline Smith - Wolverhampten. M2 - 23 April 1896 Jane Hill Welch - Parnell (Auckland).
Thomas arrived in NZ on 20 October 1873 with wife Caroline & children Frederic 11, Thomas 3, Frances 1, aboard "Hydraspes" . These all agree with the info I have on the NZ descendants.
There were 2 other Dickenses on that ship and I wonder if they were brothers - John 44 wife Caroline 36, John 10, Ellen 7, Grace 4, John 1. Samuel 34 wife Mary 25, Mary 3, Sarah 1.
I have Thomas' parents from the Wright family history http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/9326255/family?fpid=
The above gives Thomas' birth date as 1837 and not 1841.
Does this make sense...
