just can't order directly cause prior to 1900 I need
the GRO index code or what ever...which I don't have !

so I've email them what I have on my father B.C.
and wait for what they will answer !?!!

hope British civil servant are more of "civil service enthusiastic"
then they are here in Canada.

other wise it's going to be brickwall on top of brickwall !!! :-

..but if I'm not optimistic, I'm as stubborn as they come when
I can't find something !!!

hope they can come up with the right ones.

I would really like to know of some relative in STS cause
they could be the only relatives left for me!..(not that I'm that old)

..but would be nice to know where I come from !!!

P/S it seem like the only way I can get an idea of how my father got to leave England, abt 1912, is to travel to Walsall and check with the local reference institutions !?!!

I think Sarah Williams and John Bates are the two most commun name
I had to look for in my entire life !

but,  Treefreak, that Sarah you mention,I never saw before.I'll check it out

I have a question for you, since I'm not from the UK
maybe you can tell me if :

can I order a birth. cert. of my Gmother with only the info
on my father's B.C. ?..would they know where to look with that ??

as for John you came up with another one, I'll check him out but I know
that the one with father "William" is not the one (it's the "John and Isabella")

I'm surrounded by a brickwall on this !
I would like to find them prior to 1901, please !?!!

my pedigree :1901 census

Adam Bates 1  Walsall, Staffordshire, England Son  Walsall  Staffordshire   
John P. Bates 49  Rugeley, Staffordshire, England Head miner and Deputy  Lodging House Keeper Walsall  Staffordshire   
Sarah Bates nee Williams 46  Brewood, Staffordshire, England Wife  Walsall  Staffordshire   
Sarah Bates 9  Cannock, Staffordshire, England Daughter  Walsall  Staffordshire

what I do know:

not related to the John Bates and Isabella (confirmed by relatives)
could be a re-marriage, a late one or none !
I have the info on Sarah Williams

would like to get details for birt.cert. on all but Adam & Sarah ((mother)already have it)

Yes, I do have these record and I'm much oblige to you Victoria !

After being in contact recently with one of Isabella's relative
it appear to be a wrong track in my research.

it is not the right John Bates !!!

I finally made contact with relative of Isabella (I think)
they are checking the info on there side.

maybe I'll find out who's John we are taking about and continue
research on the right track !

Yes, Tanja, I'm aware but here is the enigma :

I have record of these facts :

Abraham Bates, born 1898, possibly Walsall
sent to Canada on the SS Corsican in 1912 (home child ?!!) way in
joined in WW I in 1917 and back to England way out

but no record of is birth in Walsall on Jan. 1st, 1898 (as it was stated on passenger list and army report)

So maybe I don't have access to all the entries in the census that I can check on but
somebody else has or could!?!!...and I can't order a birth cert. if no details !

Abraham (I'm looking for.. born in 1898) should be about 3 years old in 1901
