Thanks all, I appear to have repeated myself a bit. Thanks for the help, I will see if the MOD has anything about him 🙂

My Great Grandfather John Girdlestone Wright served as a Sergeant with the Royal Engineers in WW1. Unfortunately like so many, his WW1 record was destroyed. I have discovered today through birth certificates for his children that he still served with the Engineers in the 1920ís until at least 1926. Would it be worth contacting the MOD to see if they have records for him for that time? I know I would have to pay but if there was a strong chance they would have something I would do it. I would dearly love to know more about his military experiences.

Many thanks 🙂

Hi, I like collecting WW1 postcards and researching the stories of the soldiers that sent them. I have just acquired one and I am trying to work out the surname of his wife so I can work out his name but I cannot make it out. Grateful for any help you can give me 🙂

Thanks for that, I sent my last email to [email protected] and a very helpful lady has said she will have a look but unfortunately the archive is not comprehensive and also a lot are uncatalogued. I am not sure whether she will find anything but fingers crossed 😀

Imagine my excitement when I found a newspaper article from the Daily Herald on the British Newspaper Archive with a photo of a relation I had never seen a picture of before.. the only issue being the quality of the photo! It has not copied well so I would ideally love to have a copy of the original photo. After some digging on the internet, it appears the National Science and Media Museum has a Daily Herald archive. I have emailed them but have yet to receive a response. Is there anywhere else I could try to get an original photo?

Many thanks

** I have since found another email address and I am going to give that a go***

As I have it Abelís parents were married in 1831 and he was born in 1846. I have just this minute ordered Abelís birth certificate so that may shed some light, perhaps the marriage entry I have is not for them and they were in fact unmarried  :)

Has anybody ever come across a surname change in their family tree? I have noticed on my great great grandfather Abel Bargussís baptism record, it gives two suggestions for a surname.. see attached picture, I have never seen this sort of entry before. It seems that possibly the name was changed from Baughurst to Bargus as on Abelís parents banns records they are listed as Baughurst but all subsequent records they are Bargus? Very intriguing...
