Oxfordshire Completed Look Up Requests / Abingdon Agricultural Society
« on: Friday 21 February 14 19:51 GMT (UK)  »
Just wondering whether anyone has any or knows where I can find information regarding the Abingdon Agricultural Society... I found a newspaper article online from 1872 which mentioned my Great Great Grandfather Abel Bargus who was awarded Long Servitude 1st class.

Many thanks  :)

The Common Room / Crow Keeping * completed many thanks*
« on: Friday 21 February 14 11:52 GMT (UK)  »
I have recently made a fascinating discovery with regards to my family tree, I have found a newspaper article from 1863 regarding a relation and it is quite a sad tale... My relation Edward Bullock was out with his friend crow keeping and one of them had a gun, as they climbed through a hedge the gun went off killing Edward... A very sad tale as according to my tree Edward would have only been 8 years old at the time... My question is if they were out crow keeping, what would this have been? Is it perhaps a way of controlling crow numbers?.

Many thanks

Norfolk / Row 39, possibly Reedham??
« on: Sunday 09 February 14 18:37 GMT (UK)  »
I don't know if I am posting this in the right place but I was just looking at my Great Great Grandparents wedding entry, they were married in Reedham. It gives my Great Great Grandmothers residence at time of marriage as Row 39??.. Does anybody know what this could mean? I cannot make any sense of it..

Many thanks :)

Oxfordshire / Barguss family
« on: Sunday 09 February 14 10:58 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, my grandmother originated from a little village in Oxfordshire called Wootton before moving to Norfolk with my grandfather, her name was Margaret Barguss, I was just wondering whether anybody on this board has any Barguss relations or knows anything about the family. As far as I can see out of all her siblings only one other sister Edith Barguss got married and had children, she married a gentleman called Albert Walker in 1932, I would love to see if I could trace Edith's children as they would be my fathers cousins... I only have their birth registrations. I did visit Wootton a couple of years ago, it's a lovely little village and strangely felt like home even though I had never been there before :)

Norfolk / Burgess Family Reedham
« on: Sunday 26 January 14 12:48 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Bit of a long shot really, I'm related to the Burgess family who were present in Reedham, Norfolk in the 1800's to early 1900's. I have visited Reedham before and found loads of gravestones for them so I believe they were quite a prevalent family so I was just wondering whether anyone else on here was a relation and knows any more about them or even better has any photos. Being on the marshes, a lot of them were marshmen and my Great Great Grandfather Abraham Burgess (1867-1950) after being a marshmen became a railway plate layer.

Like I said, it is a bit of a long shot but I would love to know more about them.

Many thanks

Angela  :)

Hi,

My 3x Great Grandmother Sophia Seeley (incorrectly named as Sophia Ceiley on this census) in 1841 was staying with 5 people in Hevingham, Norfolk who she was not related to and I am struggling to read what their professions were. I know that just after this census, my 3 x Great Grandmother went into the workhouse. Can anyone decipher this for me?.

Many thanks!! :)

Travelling People / 1891 Census Gypsy? Circus?
« on: Friday 16 August 13 16:57 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I am not sure whether anyone can help but I have had trouble finding my Great Grandad and his family in the 1891 census... There has been talk that maybe the family could have either been gypsies or involved with the circus... There is an old family rumour that one member of the family ran off to join the circus so I am completely 100% clutching at straws wondering whether this is where they could have been in 1891...I was just wondering whether there is anywhere else to look to find them in 1891 if this is the case. If anyone can find them I will be eternally grateful as I have been looking for some years! :).

My Great Grandad was called William Page, He was born in Great Shelford, Cambridge in 1856. My Great Grandmother was called Mary Maria Page and she was born in 1862 in Edgefield, Norfolk. At the time of the 1891 census they had two children Robert William Page born in 1886 in Hempstead, Norfolk and Fountain George Page born in 1890 in Jarrow on Tyne.

I am extremely grateful for any help you can give me.

Many thanks

Angela

Durham / What district? *COMPLETED MANY THANKS*
« on: Wednesday 19 December 12 19:42 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I have relations that I am struggling to find in the 1891 census. I have the sons birth certificate for the year before with the address that they were living at the time so I thought I would manually look for them to see if they were still there. The address is 95 Tyne Street, Jarrow.  I have clicked on Durham as the county, South Shields as the Civil Parish but I need to know what the enumeration district number is for Jarrow, I have a choice of 1-6.

Does anybody know what number I need?.

Many thanks!
