Hi all - The address on the marriage cert is 50 Upper Baxter Street, Hulme for both parties which I find strange!  June 6th 1873 Sarah Kelly married William Mather.  Father's name Henry Mather, Engineer and Michael Kelly, Bricklayer.  Witnesses William and Dinah Foy.

Thank you both for the info.  I'm surprised to hear some of Helston Street is still there.  I myself don't remember it that well, I was a child visiting my grandparents at the time.  I remember Goslings the fishmongers and a corner shop grocers which was on the next corner down to Helston Street.  And the smelly chemical works at the other end of the street.

I remember my grandmother saying it was 'posh' when she first went there - whatever happened?  I wondered how they come to get the house in the first place.  My aunt lived there until it was compulsory purchased and was the only person left living in the street with all the other houses bricked up!

I am looking for my great-grandmothers family.  She was named Sarah Kelly and would have been about 8 or 9 years old  in 1861 and all I know of other members of the family are her father Michael, bricklayer.  They came from Ireland to Manchester some time between 1853 and 1873 the first address I have for her is on her marriage certificate in 1873 living in Hulme, Manchester.

Be grateful for a look-up please.

My father and his family were all born and brought up on Helston Street, Tripe Colony and they all went to Corpus Christie Church.  I know that the housing estate was built by someone who ran a tripe works, but my family weren't connected with the tripe works.  Can anyone give me any more information on the housing and the area?
