I have a feeling we have already communicated about this, but I have all the details in my tree about James and Mary's children, David and Anna.

Sorry Annie, just back from holiday. William's parents are William Macdonald and the mother's first name has been scored out then rewritten and is very hard to decipher, most likely to be jean grant. On William junior's death entry mother is,given as Margaret Mackenzie. Unfortunately there are wm macD marriages to women with both these names around the same time in the right place and I am stumped. I have Catherine in every census but not William before his marriage.

Hi Annie,
Sorry for the delay. Her parents are John Johnston, sailor (1800-1866, drowned at sea) mother Margaret macgregor (1803-1876) witnesses Alexander Johnston and James MacDonald.
Married at Petty near Inverness, she is 35, from Charleston, knockbain. She had an illegitimate daughter born at pluscarden before she met John.

Hi Yvonne, I am also a direct descendant of Catherine Johnston and William MacDonald. I have had no luck at all with William, his marriage and death entries have different mother's names and him being born in Glenrinnes has flummoxed me entirely! Have you had any luck with them?

Hi all - my mother was born a Cowie Dougal and I have a lot of information going back as far I can in Buckie and the surrounding areas - I also have a massive brick wall in that line in that I can't find the death of one John Cowie "Dougal" in my direct line who died between 1861-1871. Please let me know if I can be any help to you.

Hi - if you have not already found her I think your Jane is on ancestry now in a public tree - looks like she died in Aberdeen 26th April 1962

I have not actually opened it in SP to check though!

Hiya
I have Andrew and Margaret's son John's death for you (b1779)- he was a soldier and moved to Orkney, dying 20th March 1859 in Stromness, Orkney (he was married to Hannah Murdoch, of Fife) - the bad news for you is that Johnn's daughter Christiana registered John's mother's name as Margaret Folster!! Sorry yet another one for the melting pot! Dad Andrew said to have been a blacksmith, both deceased. Thinking of Orcadian accents it could have been Forster or Forrester she was saying to the registrar - she could not write or spell herself so would only have the spoken word to go by.

In reply to Maclost,

re Alexander MacDonald and Catherine Sinclair - I've just been researching this line for my Dad's cousin - her direct line leads to them through their son Archibald b1822.

Cheers, Rhoda
