Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: RC baptism Duneane Antrim Ireland
« on: Thursday 06 October 22 05:26 BST (UK)  »
Thanks a lot.
Since I posted I have actually found the Alice I was really looking for: Shivers. I've actually seen many variations of this, including e.g. Chivers, Chivvery, Shivvers, Shivvery, Shivvey and more, so was very open to almost anything.
I found a transcription of the one I posted as Canavy, but this surname didn't work in ifhf. I needed a surname to try to put into ifhf to find what their transcription was, as without a surname in the search nothing can be done. I had tried lots of things with no success and will try the ones you said now, to satisfy my curiosity about what they think it is.
Thanks again. ....
I did try it, but with no success. Perhaps they just haven't transcribed it.

Hi,
I am finding this really difficult, and need at least Alice's surname to search for other interpretations of it. The snip is from https://registers.nli.ie//registers/vtls000633172#page/25/mode/1up
with filter 1840 Oct. Even the date in October is difficult and the first name of the second witness.
Also, the Oct. accords with the others near it, but it also looks like there are some "Oct"s further up.
Any help would be very greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot. I'm very happy to go with Forbes. The link you gave sort of swallows up the "r" too. The Tedford record looked to have a dot above what then looked like an "i" but it was probably just a mark on the page.
I think you could be right about William Williamson too. It makes sense.

Hi, Roots Ireland has transcribed the first witness as Forbes. Here is the original from Irish Genealogy (the link above):
Do people think it's Folies or Forbes? (or something else)

Thanks a lot. I still don't even have William's or Margaret's birth or baptism, other than that they were both born in Ireland. Everything helps. I will investigate that marriage a bit more. It sounds very interesting. Hi to other searcher too! I've only just looked back at this. ...
What an amazing site is Irish Genealogy! It has images of records!
William Tedford and Margaret Magee's m is there 11 Apr 1850 in Lurgan, and as you say it has a witness in common with the m of Robert Magee and Sarah McNally. Is the surname of the 1st witness in William Tedford and Margaret Magee's m Folies? I find it very hard to read.

Thanks again. I am going to enjoy this site.

Hi,
Just in case anyone is still interested: ifhf have expanded their Armagh records, & the church baptisms of William & Margaret's children Abigail and Mary are there.

I will take your excellent advice.
