Denbighshire / Re: Death Notice North Denbighshire?
« on: Monday 23 February 15 12:08 GMT (UK)  »
North Denbighshire includes the towns above the A55 (Rhyl/Prestatyn/Rhuddlan and St.Asaph)
The main local paper is the Journal which is online and if you click on the 'active' button on the left hand margin you will have access to all papers printed online since 1/2/2008. Before that they will be on film in Rhyl Library.
The local national newspaper is the Liverpool Daily Post.
Having worked in the funeral industry for 10 years, not all funerals were published. Some were put either in the local paper or in the national paper. (be prepared for some in the Welsh language)
If you can narrow it down to a town and year, you may be able to locate a grave through Denbighshire CC or the Crematorium at Colwyn Bay.

Flintshire / Re: Kings Head Terrace, Meliden - where was it?
« on: Tuesday 06 May 14 17:49 BST (UK)  »
I live 2 miles from Meliden so I could have a look. Today the village is numbered from start to finish along Ffordd Talargoch and the old names are not used. I have not heard of Kings Head Terrace, but if wrjones can tell me what is on either side that would help me find it.
I am not aware of 7 pubs actually in the village but the parish of Meliden did once include Prestatyn. The only Kings head pub today is in Rhuddlan.
On the internet I came across Kings Head Place in 1871 census and Kings Head Terrace in 1881 census,( the home of a Thomas Williams Lead Miner.)
It may be possible that Kings Head is the old name for one of todays 3 Pubs.
If this terrace still exists will you want a photograph?

Denbighshire / Re: John Evans Chirk Bank

Hello Sandra: Thank you for your input. I do my FH research during the Winter so I will check everything I have got and get back to you. You need to register some more posts before we exchange private messages. Do you have the census returns for Jane in 1841/1851? That may help to separate the two families.
Regards Eldon.

Flintshire / Re: Hawarden burial
« on: Saturday 01 February 14 19:59 GMT (UK)  »
Very likely in the local authority cemetery in Hawarden, and it is a large one. I am not familiar with Hawarden churches.
Was she married and did her husband die before her, in which case it is his grave that we need to look for.

Devon / Re: Trying to find 'Calborough'
« on: Friday 29 November 13 18:10 GMT (UK)  »
The present law says anyone present, family or nurse. Its just she was a pauper weaver, but she may have been present. She caused me a lot of trouble ???
Thank you once more.

To Devon Maid and DOB7, Thank you both very much for the information. Another brick wall comes crashing down. An interesting point is that whereas the certificate is all hand written the surname Calborough is printed in capital letters. It also explains why I could not find anything on Juliana Vickery in subsequent censuses.
Still cannot see how Mary Pearce was involved though.

Devon / Trying to find 'Calborough'
« on: Wednesday 27 November 13 18:36 GMT (UK)  »
I asked about this in 2005 and when I updated the old tread it ended up in the completed lookups and I doubt if it will be read. So I am starting afresh. The old thread cab still be read with the title of Lucy Vickery in 1851.
Lucy (my GGGmother) was born in Sampford Peverell on the 27/8/1849. Her mother was Sarah Vickery nee Calborough. The informant on her certificate is quote 'X the mark of Mary Pearce occupier Sampford Peverell' She registered the birth about 3 weeks later on the 5/9/1849.
She could not read and write so the details would have been written for her so the maiden name may not have been included or not understood. I am suggesting that Calborough was a guess. I cannot find anything on this surname. My hope is that the marriage can be found in the register at Sampford Peverell.
The marriage would probably before the birth of their eldest child Julianna in 1830. The father was James Vickery, a blacksmith.
Is it please possible for someone to check the parish records for this marriage.
In the 1851 census Mary Pearce was a 70 yr old pauper weaver living with 2 other paupers. How could she register a birth when there is no obvious family connection. Also would she have to go Tiverton or would the Registrar travel to the villages.
Thank you very much

Devon Lookup Requests / Re: Non-Conformists in Barnstaple
« on: Tuesday 26 November 13 14:13 GMT (UK)  »
Hello Donald:
To find non-conformist ministers have a look at the 'Surman Index'. Google it and you will find an alphabetical search, Click on B and he is not there. I have  a whole family of Non Conformists and they are all listed. In the 1870;s  the non conformist minister at Bideford was married to my GG Aunt, so I was drawn to your request.
To find buildings I use Google Eye. If there is a church in Trinity Street you should be able to find it.
I couldn't find Jabez Brinkman in the 1871 census, nor could I find any mention of him in the
newspapers.
Have a look at this site:   www.bmdregisters.co.uk/bmdr/results.php?. Deal with Non Conformist BMD. You can search but have buy credits for the results. There are 2 Jabez Brinkman:
born 1818 in London and born 1813 in Middlesex
I hope this has been of some help.
Eldon.
