Wow, so much info!!! Thanks!!! It will take a while to sift through it. I know William did marry an Elizabeth Dawson (who seems to have "adopted" Mary's son Robert Ernest Galloway after her death) and his parents were George and Maria from Yorkshire. The Penshaw baptism 10.6.1827 for William is very interesting. I wonder what Copperas House was?

I only asked where to find it today. Haven't had a chance yet as I am helping a friend and won't see her until next week, and it will be up to her whether she obtains the certificates or not.

Hi Trish. I have all that thanks, but as you say, no sign of Mary pre 1891. That is my problem. Who is she? That is why I need the marriage certificate to find her father. She does leave her estate to an Elizabeth Hoggart, plus her son, named as sons Aunt, but can't see the connection.

I hope someone can help. I am trying to find a Marriage Certificate for a Robert Cunningham Cook Galloway married to Mary Hoggard in 1882 Gateshead - as stated on the FreeBMD site, but I can't find them on the Gateshead Registry Office site or the Durham Registry Office site.
I am also trying to find Mary Galloway's Death Certificate - died 1898 Gateshead - as stated on the FreeBMD site but again, the same problem.
Any ideas?

I wonder if someone could help me. I'm looking for the names of footballers playing for Hanwell Town Football Club in the 1920s, namely a George Holburn/Holborn.
The story is this - my mother told me that her father played professional football for Abertillery Football Club in the 1920s - which seemed odd as he came from Sunderland. (bear with me). I did find a mention of his name in an old newspaper for the club and it mentioned there were a number of Geordies playing for them. However, what we really wanted was a photo. We wrote to the club, but had no response. I then decided to trawl through old photos online of football clubs in the 1920s. After many weeks of trawling I spotted a man on a photo whom I thought was the image of my grandad. However, when it said Hanwell, Ealing I nearly dismissed it but, I got really excited when I discovered that they had been known as the 'Lunatics and Geordies'. (Geordie being the word of interest here
).

The photo in the link has the man I think may be my grandad on it. Gunnersbury Lane is also mentioned in the link and that rang bells too as his Uncle lived in Gunnersbury Lane in 1881. However, he had moved to Australia by the 1920s so maybe just coincidence.

What fantastic work! I had seen the original 1939 census and noticed the amendments, but couldn't read the Mary Ann bit. Now I see!
I had also seen the BMD entry for Florence Palmer and Henry G Day and didn't realise the significance of Mary A Mildenburger.
The coincidences are even closer. You say Mary Ann Mildenburger was living at 9 Stanley Street, Newcastle in 1923. That is in Elswick which is a few streets away from the last address of John Herbert Palmer when he lived in Elswick at 67 Greenhow Place (although Greenhow Place is no longer there).
It has to be them. I suppose it was easier for Mary Ann to masquerade as Florence Edith Palmer as she probably wanted to appear as Dorothy's natural mother, but who knows.

I am hoping someone could help. I am trying to trace a John Herbert Palmer B: 1891 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. The family story is that he left Newcastle-upon-Tyne following the death of his wife, Florence Edith (nee Daglish B: 1893/4 ) in 1922, leaving most of his children with relatives, but taking the younger daughter, Dorothy B: 1920 with him. It is also said that he may have gone off with a lady friend neighbour and was not heard of again.
I have been trying to find him and I have come across a 1939 Census record of a John H Palmer B: 1891 living at Strode Road, Fulham. He is living with a Florence E Palmer B: 1891 and Dorothy B: 1920. Unfortunately, it does not say where they were born. I was very drawn to this record because of the names, obviously; but Florence E was a problem. Who is she? Didn't she die!?!? Is it just a huge coincidence?
Again, unfortunately, it just says John H Palmer, so is it Herbert; and Florence E Palmer is it Edith?
There is other information written on re a further marriage for Florence E and a marriage for Dorothy (who seems to have married her neighbour, Stanley J Hutchings.
Very convoluted explanation, I know, but could anyone throw any light on these people? Florence seems to have married a Mr Day and Dorothy a Mr Hutchings, but what happened to the John H Palmer living in Fulham and is it John Herbert?
