I may be somewhat old fashioned in my outlook but whenever I notice information taken from a database that someone (or group of people) has taken the trouble to prepare and put online, for the benefit of other researchers, and no acknowledgement has been given to their website I feel extremely annoyed.

Hi newjerseychick,

There's a Michael Lennon who seems to be the Treasurer of Kiltegan GAA.

A message to him might produce some further details. http://kiltegan.wicklow.gaa.ie

Hi CP,

The family surname may be on the Census and if she's named after an aunt or her mother that may assist in finding them.

Hi Gracelands,

The IrishTimes.com Irish Ancestors Surname Search shows the numbers of Loftus heads of household at the time of Griffith's Primary Valuations.
They appeared in fifteen counties ... apart from the ones listed here the number of Loftus families in other counties were in single figures.

Galway 53, Mayo 256, Roscommon  14,  Sligo  30, and Wexford  14

Leitrim / Re: IRISH KELLYs

Hi Sharyn,

I thnk you are going to have problems researching this family. There are a few possibilities where more clues might be found but they are long shots. The christian names of descendents and also counties in Ireland where other Irish families, living in the area where your Kellys settled in Australia, were born.
It might be worth while having a look at the parish priests who were in the same area in Australia. In some cases they were from the same parish as many members of their congregation.

Hi Harriet and Wul,

Is this the Parkfield that you are seeking? http://tinyurl.com/dh6g7w

I've just sent a reply to a query about the Barony of Glencarn (Glencairn) in Co. Antrim to a poster on another site.

I couldn't find such a Barony in Ireland but found a Barony of Glencairn & Sheriffdom of Dumfries http://tinyurl.com/djll89

Leitrim / Re: William Blair in Drumlea
« on: Monday 27 April 09 23:55 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I am trying to trace back from an ancestor of my husband. His name was William Blair, born in Drumlea, Leitrim in 1863. When he was 18 he enlisted in the British army, in Dublin. He was posted to England, where he married and remained in Staffordshire. He is my husbands G -grandfather. I am new to this and am unsure where to go to trace back in the Irish records, to find his parents etc.

Can anyone give me a hint where I should investigate?

Many thanks
kaj

Hi kaj,

Griffith's Primary Valuations of Leitrim - 1856 shows there were two Blair heads of household in Boihy townland in the Parish of Drumlease.

They were James and William.

Hi Sharyn,

Could Julia's name have been McGoohan rather than McGoonan? McGoohan and Smith households were recorded in the same parish in two Irish counties
in Griffith's Primary Valuation property survey of 1848-64. The counties were Cavan and Leitrim. Source: irishtimes.com/ancestor/surname

Hi viddavid,

I searched for McGivern in Griffith's Primary Valuations ... there weren't many, if any, in Leitrim.

The vast majority of people with this surname came from Co. Down

Antrim 2,  Armagh  9, Belfast city,  4  Cork  6, Down  101 and  Roscommon  1
