Hi

I've just remembered to check the full GRO index in case the name was incorrectly transcribed on free bmd but it shows Hodginson

Hi

Have you only looked at the partially transcribed index on freebmd?

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/

Transcriptions for those years are very thin on the ground

You will need to search the full GRO index  which is available at your nearest main library if you live in the UK.  It can also be searched online if you have an Ancestry subscription or at www.findmypast.com which is a paysite

Without knowing Glady's surname you face a very time consuming task as only the spouse's surname is shown alongside the entry - not her christian name

There is potentially a 20 year period involved which means downloading 4 images per year and searching for a Maurice Rose entry on each image

There will probably be more than one entry but using the reference and surname of spouse, you will have to download the corresponding image to see if she was a Gladys

Hi Patrish

We are trying to verify the parents of Mary Ann Jones born according to the 1851 census Welshpool, Wales.

The 1805 entry for Manchester cannot be her

Hi Evie

If she married in 1825 - fathers names did not appear on marriage entries until 1837.  Mothers names never appear

Hi

I'm wondering about both re-marriages.  Divorce in those days took several years

If Elizabeth only walked out on Alfred in 1926 - there is no way either of them could have re-married as early as 1927

Alfred could only have re-married that quick if Elizabeth died

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Re: Worralls on Derby St. in Liverpool

Hi

The IGI record which you have found is a submitted entry - not an extracted record - and indicates that somebody else is researching the same family

I suspect "Derby St" is the address shown on his marriage entry and whoever has obtained the marriage entry have subtracted his age at that time to get an approximate birth year

There is no actual venue shown for the marriage and although he may have married in Liverpool - there is no proof that he was also born in Liverpool

If you look on Genes Reunited you will see that somebody called Graham has an interest in this John Worrall and also another b Bromborough Cheshire

Is this one of the ones you have already tried?

Sarah Ann Hodginson December qtr 1848
West Derby   Volume: 20  Page: 906

Two things:

When you order a cert from the GRO and know the parents names - you can put a condition on your application that you only want it if father was Robert and mother was Mary.

If it's the wrong one - they will only charge a search fee of £3

Also

Search by GRO

If you have done your own searching in the GRO indexes and have found more than one reference to the name you are researching, or are unsure which is the entry you require, the GRO offer reference checking online.

The charge is £7 for action on the first entry, which includes the cost of the certificate, and £3 for checking each subsequent reference against the information you have provided.   You have the option of asking them to either stop at the first reference which agrees with your information or to check all references

You must give them one piece of information that you are sure will appear on the certificate for example,  the exact date of the event or a parent(s) name(s). You must fill in the reference checking sheet which is accessed by pressing the reference checking button near the bottom of the page,  and fill in all the fields that you would like the entry to be checked against before
you press the 'Submit' button. A certificate will only be issued if the entry they check matches the checking point you give them.

The 1904 marriage to Alfred Ware only shows her as Elizabeth Lambert - no middle initial.  Was this her maiden name?  If it was then the 1904 marriage is the correct one

To lookup the 1927 marriage you need to know the name of the church in which it took place - otherwise you will have to buy a copy of the 1927 marriage cert

You say she left your grandfather in 1926 - unless he died before the march qtr 1927 - it's unlikely this is her re-marriage.

Have I mis-read this?

Jan 14 1847 he claims St. Johns Wood, Marylebone in later census, but no father shown on birth cert.

Quote
and 2/ his birth cert. stating Sophia Hunt and James Hunt

If no fathers name is shown on James 1847 birth cert and no maiden name is shown for Sophia - then James was illegitimate.

Many people made up fathers names on their marriage certs to appear "respectable" as there was a stigma attached to illegitimacy in those days.  Charles could have been a relative

On the 1861 census - daughter Ann now 22 is shown as unmarried but now her surname is Mace and she is shown as George's daughter in law

Daughter in law/son in law was a description often used by enumerators to describe stepchildren

There is an Ann Mace marriage in 1868 in Hungerford but no spouse is shown
