Have a look at http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/Caton/index.html

Lists William Knowles baptism in Jun 1842 and details parents. Lots of other Cornthwaites listed in marriages etc so should help you piece it all together.

If he didnt go until 1865 you should find him on the 1861 census too - do you have access?

Armagh / Caledon Bridge / Aghaloo - advice please?
« on: Saturday 08 September 12 10:03 BST (UK)  »
Am trying to trace the baptism of a Strong Dinning in Caledon Bridge / Aghaloo in the 1760s.

He is listed in the Flax growers list of 1796 at Tynan in Armargh and there is an Adam Clendenon listed (as protestant) in the 1766 Religious Census of County Tyrone, Diocese of Armagh.

What is the best way for me to look for this - is it a search request to PRONI? Would appreciate any advice as to if it is even worth it or if records just too vague.

Possible the church itself or the UFCoS may have archives?

Or you could try the National Library of Scotland.

Yes very probable - Hezekiah and Lydia in Claybrooke. First born son is John  ;D

Reckon the one showing on the 1841 census in Claybrooke is one of mine, despite him saying Leics / in county for his birthplace.

I have John's oldest son Hezekiah born abt 1764 in Crick. So Claybrooke is another area to add to my research. Looks like a possible marriage and child for him there too. Thank you!

This thread may give you some pointers, looks like some records may be kept at National Library of Scotland for the period up to 1920.

OK I really like the Welford one. If this is all the same family then circumstantially it fits much better than the East Haddon one. How does this sound??

John born 1742 is 20 years younger than his oldest brother Hezekiah - as a young child maybe looks up to him and then when Hezekiah dies when John is just 7 it has a big impact, big enough for him to name his first born son after him. John's second born son is then named for his Father Thomas, third born for himself. 1st daughter named for his wife and then second daughter is named for the sister / sibling closest in age to himself.

Guess I better try and disprove it! Thanks again.
