Hi, according to a marriage certificate dated 1776, the groom's occupation is "Salter". Can anyone shed further light please?

Many Thanks

Haven't managed it yet Japeflakes. Other demands on my time I'm afraid! However, I'm not entirely sure that I'm sending it in the correct format, so hoping that a more technically minded friend will help when she visits.

Hi Carol,
Thanks for replying. I've tried that! I get as far as that stage, and have the pic selected, but it just won't post. Ah well, back to the drawing board!

Ok, I'm beaten! I cannot work out how to post an image. I've looked at the help section, but cannot get anything to post. I choose the photo, then can't seem to work out what to do next. Any advice ?

Thank you
Meggy

Thank you Hibee. That is my grandfather Matthew. There is a bit of a story here and I'm just trying to join all the dots! Thanks for your interest.

Ah, thank you both. Have looked on SP and in BT directories for that year. Who knew that telephone directories could be so fascinating?!! Found other bits of interesting information.  :)

Hi all, I'm trying to find the name of a fruit shop in Montagu Terrace, Edinburgh in 1930.

It was owned by my grandmother Jessie Ramsay. Any suggestions as to how to find out, gratefully received!

Thanks,
