Absolutely gorgeous day here in Dublin, blue skies and sunshine. It's a balmy 14°C (not up to the standard of some of you  down under) but in Ireland we make the most of every bit of sunshine we get  ;D. Certainly makes a change from all the rain we've had for the last while. While it's cool in the shade, my back garden is sheltered so nice to get some fresh air. I'm taking it easy though as I'm still getting over a chest infection which took 2 courses of both antibiotics and steroids to clear up. The garden needs work, but it'll have to wait.

Wicklow / Re: THOMAS LAWLESS WW! 1917

I would say as he died of TB he may well of been Cremated not Buried otherwise the CWGC would know where he was Buried to erect his Headstone but none due but Commemorated on the Memorial instead.

As the first crematorium in Ireland only opened in recent years, Thomas would have been buried not cremated as he died in Ireland.

Technical Help / Re: New laptop opinion
« on: Thursday 25 January 24 23:39 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, thank you all for your replies and info. It's much appreciated. It's given me something to think about, and places to look for reviews.

In reply to Biggles, my max budget is c. €900. I want the laptop to have a decent amount of memory for photos, documents, online meetings, some games, a university course and of course, family history & software. It needs to be much faster than the current one, I've often turned the air blue while trying to do something on this one  >:( :(

Technical Help / New laptop opinion
« on: Sunday 21 January 24 22:33 GMT (UK)  »
I hope it's ok to post this.

I'm hoping to purchase a new laptop in the near future, to replace the very slow Lenovo I have, and would appreciate opinions from any of the knowledgeable people on this board.

I have seen a HP laptop which seems to meet my requirements. The details are: HP 250 G9 Intel core i7 512 GB. As I've never used a HP laptop, does anyone have an opinion on this, or are have any other recommendations?

Many thanks, frostyknight

I have a mouse in my flat :o
I thought I had seen something scuttling across the floor; but it was always out of the corner of my eye.
Got a better look this week. Have to buy a humane trap; and then think where to release the critter.

I bought a humane trap recently as my cat brought in a live mouse and then let it go in the kitchen  ;D. The trap worked, the little mouse went in 20 minutes after I set the trap. Hop you catch yours soon.

A very dull day here in Dublin, cold too but dry so far. I hope we don't get snow.

If they were RC  there won't be a civil marriage cert before 1864. It's necessary to find parish registers before that.

The Irish 1923 birth records aren't available yet, it usually takes a couple of months past the new year before the next batch are released.
