London and Middlesex / Mrs A. D. Druce
« on: Saturday 19 December 20 21:53 GMT (UK)  »
My relation Alfred Foot was a chauffeur who worked for Mrs A. D. Druce and family from 1900.Alfred lived at Claydon Mews in London. I assume the the Druce family were well off but I have been unable to trace them. I am not sure if A. D. is her initials or that of her husband's. There was a famous Druce furniture store and it might be that the Druce family were connected to that family? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks Mark

Somerset / Jane Bindon
« on: Saturday 14 November 20 15:56 GMT (UK)  »
I have been sorting out some items from my parents house and have come across an embroidery item (see attached). I believe it came from the family of Ann Bindon who married Solomon Smart (my ancestors). They were from the Holforsd, Ditch, Stringston area of Somerset. I guess it was made by Jane's mother as it stats Jane died May 7  1847 when she was 18 years and 7 months.
Thank you for any help.

Dorset / Thorne David and Harriot
« on: Friday 13 November 20 00:19 GMT (UK)  »
Census records show that David and Harriet were from Buckland Newton. They were born around 1800. It appears that David died in1887 and Harriet in 1865. David then I believe married Jane Dewland.
There are a number of Harriet's born in Buckland Newton at that time and I would like some help to find her surname and any other info about here. Many thanks for any assistance.

Somerset / Silas Hoskins of Castle Cary
« on: Tuesday 13 October 20 15:06 BST (UK)  »
Silas Hoskins was born around 1816 in Ansford Somerset and died in Castle Cary in 1894. He was buried in the parish church's churchyard. He was a builder/carpenter who was involved in most aspects of the town, public duties, early police constable, societies as well as being well known in the temperance movement. The Castle Cary Visitor wrote about his life in its 1900 September edition under the title of Cary Worthies. I do not have a photo of him and neither has any of the relatives that I have contacted. I wonder if he appears in any old published photographs perhaps in one of his clubs, Friendly Societies, Temperance Societies, local Liberal Party pictures or even the local gas company. Any help and suggestions would be fantastic as it would be lovely to find a photograph or even a painting showing him. The only image I have of him is in my mind that  of him with a portly form!

Many thanks  Mark

Dorset / 3 George Higgins birth years
« on: Saturday 04 July 20 23:55 BST (UK)  »
In my great grandmother's book of birthdays it mentions 3 George Higgins but just gives the day and the month and not the year. I am hoping that by discovering some dates it will narrow down and then we can discover the full dates of the 3 of them. They were all born at Bradford Abbas.
Birth or bapt years.
George Higgins 1810
George Higgins 1837
George Higgins 1859 bapt  named him as R/King. Mother Charlotte Ring was to marry George Higgins after a couple of years.
Birthday dates
12th Jan
1st Mar against this date it mentions 1810
4th Oct

Any help finding 1837 full date and 1859  without ordering certs. Many thanks Mark

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / George Higgins Melmoth of Ringwood
« on: Saturday 04 July 20 22:26 BST (UK)  »
Today for the first time I came across my gt grandmother's birthday book.
Her name is Bessie Higgins b 1865 Tatworth, Somerset.
Her father George Higgins bapt 1837 Bradford Abbas, Dorset.

In the birthday book there are a number of Melmoth's. It is a name I have never heard of. Why is there a George Higgins Melmoth b 25/4/1876. He probably died in the first quarter 1951 in Christchurch.

Any thoughts/help would be very helpful as this is intriguing as I am wondering if he is related?

Thanks Mark
