Hello,
I've just joined up as I'm starting to put together the research my uncle and cousin started in 1993 and my aunt had commissioned in 1999. They both worked hard by spending hours in libraries as there was little more available but now with the help of the amount of information online I hope to make some headway before heading back to the libraries for finer details!
My family are from Hull and I now live in Manchester and so the close link to access the local records is more difficult but the work my relations have done already gives me a starting point... So much raw information just seems to create more questions though!
Matson is my family name from my father's side, and already I have a mystery to solve relating to one of my great grandfathers, Thomas Matson born 1824 and died 8th February 1864 at Hull Royal Infirmary. His death certificate states he died at Hull Royal Infirmary but a thorough search of (most if not all of the) parish church records for Hull reveals no burial place. My uncle is particularly baffled as he has located the grave of Thomas' wife and he is not buried with her. Later in his life he was a seaman, so my immediate guess is that he was maybe buried at sea - but would that be an option if he died in hospital?
I don't have many living relatives who have any real information on the family history, so in order to find out about births and deaths I've tried searches on Yorkshire BMD with names I know and vague dates to see if I can find anything to check further, and I'm also very keen to check the local paper (Hull Daily Mail) for obituaries but I think that is a none starter unless I have dates or at least Months / Years!
Any advice would be appreciated...
