The moat at the Tower of London is to be filled with 888,246 ceramic poppies to mark the 100th anniversary of the beginning of World War 1. From August5th to November 11th the moat is to become a sea of red, with each poppy representing a British or Colonial soldier killed. As part of the installation a mound will be created in the moat and from here the Last Post sounded each evening at dusk, preceeded by the reading of a selection of names of those who died. Relatives of the dead can request the name of their ancestor be read out on a specific day so they can come and pay their respects.
The ceramic poppies will then be sold at £25 each with the proceeds going to various charities.
