The Common Room / Tower of London - Poppies
« on: Tuesday 10 June 14 12:20 BST (UK)  »
Read this interesting article and thought others would be interested to.
The moat at the Tower of London is to be filled with 888,246 ceramic poppies to mark the 100th anniversary of the beginning of World War 1.  From August5th to November 11th the moat is to become a sea of red, with each poppy representing a British or Colonial soldier killed.  As part of the installation a mound will be created in the moat  and from here the Last Post sounded each evening at dusk,  preceeded by the reading of a selection of names of those who died.  Relatives of the dead can request the name of their ancestor be read out on a specific day so they can come and pay their respects.
The ceramic poppies will then be sold at £25 each with the proceeds going to various charities.
Lots of info. if you Google, and if you are interested in being one of the many volunteers they are looking for  to help 'plant' the poppies, go to

Technical Help / Connection from old keyboard to new computer - update
« on: Thursday 01 May 14 11:20 BST (UK)  »
Have put this as new post but with old title.  Have now received the adapter to connect old keyboard to new computer.  As many of you predicted it does not work.  I have looked in Control Panel under devices where the 'new' mouse is listed, but it does not even show the one I am trying to connect (even when I disconnect the existing mouse).Did manage to buy a cheap white keyboard to use whilst waiting, but again the keyboard is just too flat and I make mistakes in every word.  Guess I will just have to put up with Dell keyboard that come with computer. keys are not bad, it is just it is black.

Technical Help / monthly calender COMPLETED
« on: Tuesday 22 April 14 18:27 BST (UK)  »
Before changing computers I had a programme (believe it might have been publisher) that I used to run off monthly blank calenders.  Sadly this has not transferred to new Windows 7.  Can anyone give me a link to where I might find a calendar I can download so as to print out each month please?

Technical Help / COMPLETED Connection from old keyboard to new computer
« on: Sunday 20 April 14 17:51 BST (UK)  »
Have purchased new computer but do not like keyboard.  Am of the old school, ie a touch typist and I  find modern keyboards have the keys too flat. Also I have an eye condition which makes it hard to see on dark colours so my existing old keyboard being white is ideal.  The probem is that it has a round connection end (see photos) so cannot attach to new computer. I need an adapter to connect old keyboard cable to new usb port on my computer.  Have seen several on Amazon but do not know what the end on my computer is ie male/female etc. I know that I need a male usb on the end of adaptor to go into computer. Can anyone please tell me exactly what it I I have to order.

Technical Help / completed Delete in emails
« on: Tuesday 08 April 14 10:57 BST (UK)  »
Getting used to Windows 7 on my new machine, but have a query that I am sure someone can give me the answer to.

In my email (live) I cannot seem to do a 'mass' delete. On OExpress I was able to go into deleted file and click one button to delete all the files there. Now I can only do them one by one, or highlight a load and then delete.  (just a bit time consuming)

Technical Help / Proxy server problem - Windows 7
« on: Thursday 03 April 14 11:43 BST (UK)  »
Have just got new computer with Windows 7, so very much a learning curve at the moment.  Foolishly tried to download a tv prog. I had missed and it came up with all sorts of other downloads such as I believe Real Player.  Anyway managed to 'escape' from these but ever since when I first try to go into Google after switching machine on get message 'the proxy server is not responding'  I know how to get rid of this each time and get back into Google but it is annoying. How can I get rid of this completely please?
