Australia / Passenger lists not on Ancestry/FindMyPast/FamilySearch?1853-1858
« on: Thursday 19 July 18 08:51 BST (UK)  »
I have a newspaper article documenting a Daniel Christian born about 1833 coming to Australia for 4 1/2 years for the Gold Rush At Bendigo, Spring Gully and Iron Bark. He was from the Isle of Man and came with fellow countrymen, however he returned home in May 1858.
I can't seem to find any record of his shipping either way?
thanks,
Sharon

That would be awesome if you have the time please.
It's probably a long shot, but I have spent 17 years looking for the parents of Thomas Moore supposedly Robert Moore and Margaret Kewley, born unknown - circa 1830-1845, known to be in Australia by 1868.
Thanks for any help,
cheers,
Sharon

Wondering if there are such thing in existence for the Isle of Man?
I have found a baptism

Thomas Cowley
Record type: Baptisms
Parish: Michael
Parents: Margaret Cowley
Baptism date: 17 October 1830
Gender: Male

and am wondering if there may be a chance of identifying the father?

Thanks,
Sharon

Jomot, smart observation
So it shouldn't include any marriages.  What it does include though is Mary Ann Scott's birth & baptism:

Could it be that a note has been added to her birth/baptism simply recording the fact that she had married?

I believe that you are probably right there, thanks! :)

Durham / Re: Marriage 13 Sep 1910 at Esh Manning or St Godric, Durham lookup?
« on: Friday 13 July 18 05:44 BST (UK)  »
I have edited original post, it was Esh Manning on the records, I had worked out it meant Esh Winning, but I had a senior moment :)
And, yes Lanchester was the district - interesting, so must be Esh Winning, unless banns were read at Durham?

thanks,
Sharon
Esh or the separate place called Esh Winning. Both in County Durham.
No Esh Manning. Possibly Manning came from Army Records with bad pronouncing of Esh Winning or bad transcription.

St. Godric's is a Durham City, Church.

Durham / Marriage 13 Sep 1910 at Esh Winning lookup?
« on: Friday 13 July 18 00:15 BST (UK)  »
Hi listers,
I am chasing a SHAW family from Esh Winning.
War records for John SHAW say that he married Mary Ann SCOTT on 13 Sep 1910 at Esh Manning.
Family Search has the marriage at St Godric, Durham, her father is named, but not his.
Several Ancestry trees have the father as George SHAW, and the family can be seen on the 1901 census at Esh, but I am not totally convinced as I have a DNA match to a descendant, and I have SHAWs from Huddersfield. Therefore I would like to try and identify the father of John SHAW so I determine if it is relevant or not. They appear to be Catholic, but my SHAWs were not.
Thanks for any help,
Sharon
