Does anyone know whether there is an archive for the Bristol Co-operative Society which would give details of employees 1895-1945?

Somerset / DERRICK Family - Blagdon
« on: Friday 10 July 15 14:02 BST (UK)  »
Has anyone researched this family?  I am trying to sort out a Levi Derrick who I believe was probably the son of Thomas & Mary DERRICK.  Levi was born in about 1813 and received into the church at Blagdon, aged 6 in 1819 with his parents as Thomas & Mary DERRICK.
There are 3 marriages for a Thomas DERRICK and Mary in Blagdon between 1788 and 1798 - on the last one Thomas is a widower but which pair had Levi?
Can anyone help me identify which Thomas & Mary is which?

I believe these may be the burials of Thomas & Mary in Blagdon
Mary DERRICK 23 Dec 1819 aged 52
Thomas DERRICK 22 Oct 1835 aged 75
Thomas DERRICK 18 Sept 1837 aged 76
Mary DERRICK 26 Feb 1838 aged 71

As I wrote that I realised that the last two should have death certificates with names of people giving information so that might be a lead.

I'm hoping that someone has already unravelled this family!!
Thanks

Lancashire / Crime in Liverpool
« on: Tuesday 30 June 15 16:40 BST (UK)  »
For years I've been trying to find information about Henry Austin HASE who was born in Weston-super-Mare in 1857.  In 1870 he was sentenced to 5 years on board the Training Ship Formidable at Portishead and I haven't been able to find about what happened to him after that. (Their records have not survived for that period).
Last weekend Findmypast published some Criminal Records which included Henry Austin HASE being accused in Liverpool of receiving stolen goods in 1875.  He was found not guilty.  He is described as a barman and 21 years old (the age doesn't quite match but the name does).
There is a Henry HASE of the correct age but born in New York in Liverpool on the 1881 census - is that the same man?
Any suggestions? - Thanks for reading this

Antrim / Birth in Ballymena in about 1851
« on: Monday 11 May 15 22:47 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for the birth of a Jean (or Jennie) McBURNEY who on censuses gives her date and place of birth as 1851 in Ballymena.  She married a George DAYER in Salt Lake City in 1873 and by 1877 gave birth in Bristol, Gloucestershire where she remained until her death in 1923.
Is there anyway I can find her parents or when she went to America or when she returned to Bristol. Her husband was born in South Wales.
Many thanks for reading this

Somerset / DYMOCK Family - Milton Clevedon & Ditcheat
« on: Thursday 20 November 14 21:49 GMT (UK)  »
I believe my husband's 4 x great grandfather was Elias DYMOCK who was born in Ditcheat in about 1734 and was married there in 1758 to Mary SLADE.
Elias was the son of William & Mary DYMOCK who although bringing up a family in Ditcheat were both buried in Milton Clevedon.  I haven't found their marriage so I don't know Mary's maiden name.
I believe William DYMOCK, born about 1707, was probably the son of Thomas & Elizabeth DYMOCK whose children were all christened in Milton Clevedon - but again I don't know Elizabeth's maiden name and I haven't found a marriage.  Can anyone help?  Thanks.

London and Middlesex / Burials - Westminster St Margaret
« on: Monday 17 December 12 00:53 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone explain what is written beneath the names in the Burial Register of St Margaret's Westminster.  I am particularly interested in the burial of Sarah ISAAC on the 6th Feb 1813
The abbreviations seem to change depending on age of person and whether they were in the Workhouse or not - But what do they mean?
Thank you

Shropshire / Annie WALKER - Little Wenlock
« on: Sunday 04 December 11 15:00 GMT (UK)  »
On the 1891 Census an Annie WALKER, aged 16,  is living with, and described as, the sister-in-law of Noah GRIFFITHS at Little Worth, Little Wenlock. She is said to have been born in Warwickshire, but on later censuses her birth place is given as in Shropshire.   Family information gives her birthday as 11th June 1875 but I cannot find a birth registration for her.
Noah's wife was a Fanny WALKER and her mother Margaret WALKER, aged 69, is also living with them in 1891.  If Annie is also Margaret's daughter (and the ages are correct on the census) then Margaret would have been about 53 when she was born.
On the 1881 census Richard & Margaret WALKER are at Little Wenlock and they have a 6 year-old grand daughter living with them called Susanna WALKER born in Little Wenlock.  I have christenings for 7 children of Richard & Margaret in Little Wenlock between 1850 and 1865.
Does anyone know of an Ann or Susanna WALKER born in 1875 who appear to be their grandchildren?
With thanks

Pat

London and Middlesex / St Olave Workhouse & Infirmary
« on: Saturday 26 November 11 22:22 GMT (UK)  »
James William COLES was admitted to St Olave Workhouse 22nd Jan 1881 and on the 1891 census was an inmate in James Street Workhouse - is that the same place?
He was transfered to the Infirmary 29th Dec 1891.
If he died in the Infirmary - which registration district is that?
James was born in about 1819 in Somerset.

Thanks

Alderney, Guernsey, Jersey, Sark / Lack of Maiden names on Birth certificate
« on: Tuesday 20 September 11 13:06 BST (UK)  »
I've been shown a copy of a birth certificate for a birth in St Helier in 1859 but there is no maiden name given for the mother and no surname for the Informant.  I see that this is a "Translation" of the Original.  Would the original still exist and is it likely that it might have more information?

Thanks

Pat
