Lancashire Lookup Requests / Re: Pilkingtons in Cronton/Tarbock.

Lots of information on www.history.knowsley.gov.uk

Just google Tarbock history

A 6 inch to the mile map was made in the late 1840s early 1850s and a 25 inch to the mile in late 1880s early 1890s. Then there are later ones there may be one produced by Alan Godfrey. To see these you'd probably need to go to Huyton library or there are copies in lancashire Record Office. There are DVDs with all the maps for the whole of Lancashire on them.

The lady probably went into service somewhere but the liklihood of finding out where is fairly remote apart from where she shows on a census.

You may find www.lancashirebmd.org.uk useful to find the earlier marriage. It's free and may give a clue to the church the marriage took place in. A quick look shiows a couple of possibilities.

Your local library will probably have a subscription to Ancestry which you can use for free! You can then play with censuses, bmds etc etc as long as they allow you to sit at the PC!

The date on the death certificate and any mention of the inquest would be helpful. I can look tomorrow.

If he was found on Formby beach the most likely paper for it to be in would be the Formby Times or the Southport Visiter. That would also be (I think) where an inquest would be held. The death certificate will record the date of inquest and possibly the place.
However Sefton Local History North (temporarly at Formby Library due to the renovation of Southport) did an amazing job cutting up the local papers for the First World War and then  photocopying them in years which are now large bound volumes in the local libraries.  I can have a look when I am in the library if you would like. They include any articles to do with the war.

The marriage took place at Leyland St Andrew (www.lancashirebmd.org.uk) You will need to obtain the marriage certificate to find out John and Grace's father's names so that you can proceed backwards with the family.

Do you have proof that Grace's father was Thomas? If you do his baptism appears to be on www.lan-opc.org.uk His parent's names George and Grace.

I found this response to a 2008 query

"Preston Reference Library do not have any Electoral Rolls between 1914 & 1921."

I would suggest you would have to look before or after at the address and possibly try directories.

You could look at passenger lists. I'm not sure whereabouts you are in the world but Ancestry has people leaving USA and Find My Past has outgoing lists from UK. Ancestry is free in most libraries in the UK or you can purchase a subscription. Find myPast is a paying website and its terms and conditions prohibit look ups.

You could also try on the Ellis Island website (free) which shows people entering New York. I can't remember the actual address for the site but a google would find it.
