Hello Gadget

Seems I have dropped a cog and posted three different threads one on Militaria, this one and another of John Evans in Liverpool I think

The only information I have is what was provided on the militaria on here.  Not been on it for awhile but just read from 2017 that MaxD has died.  Also was told to apply to the GRO for a birth cert but they were all prior to registration?

Sorry thanks for your help

Hello Gadget

Just had another look at Familysearch and they have him as Holywell 1780 joined the military aged 31 in Plymouth 27.11.1811?

Hello Gadget

Happy New Year.  I am no further with James Potter of the Shropshire Militia so went on another branch equally as frustrating.

John Evans on this post  was my 3rd great grandfather and he was in the 55th foot.

He married Isabella Skelton from Brampton Cumberland at All Hallows London 05.01.1813.    One witness was Hugh Mitchell and the other was Margaret (not sure of the last name) They must have all been in the regiment as they were godparents to some of the children.

Isabella was born in Brampton parents Richard and Jane Skelton nee Hetherington in 1795 so just 18 when she married John.

Their first son John Evans was christened at Brighton 10.12.1815

2nd child Margaret in St Helier Jersey 05.10.1817 (possibly after witness of marriage and godparent

3rd child Jane  again St Helier Jersey 06.11.1818 (after her mother)

4th child I think was Elizabeth my 2nd great in Ireland circa 1821 we have not managed to come up with this but would pinpoint it to between the beginning of April 1821 – beginning June 1821.  Calculated using her marriage date as a minor to the census ages and the dates the census was taken. She married in Liverpool to Robert Forshaw at St Peter's 1841. (possibly after his mother?)

5th child Thomas at Liverpool 19.05.1823 baptised at St Peter’s Liverpool.

6th & 7th James and Sarah at Liverpool  02.04.1827 baptised at St Peter’s Liverpool.

8th Edward Liverpool 10.05.1829 baptised at St Peter’s Liverpool.

9th Mary 30.05.1831 Liverpool baptised at St Peter’s Liverpool.

John died in 1833 and is buried at St Johns Old Haymarket Liverpool aged 53

Don't know if this helps?

I think the marriage of John Evans and Elizabeth Roberts is the correct one.

Thanks for your help

Eileen

Thanks for that.  I think I got the information originally from Clwyd surnames after trawling parish registers.

I don't rely on Family Search and hate the new format lol

Will look at the the site you said for Genuki they have been helpful with my Yorkshire branch.  I have been using Ancestry since Tuesday as they had a free 5 days of BMD.

Thanks again Eileen

Happy New Year to all

I have found that my ancestor was John Evans baptised Holywell 20.08.1780 son of John and Elizabeth Evans.  Although he was a shoemaker he enrolled in the 55th foot in Plymouth in 1807 (all information been kindly supplied by Rootschat) He married in London and his kids were baptised all over the country.  My great great grandmother Elizabeth being born in Ireland. (not got her date of birth?)  He married Isabella Skelton in London 1813 and died in Liverpool as a shoemaker 1833  All evidence proven.

It is his parents and backwards from them that I am now struggling.

I have found a couple John Evans and Elizabeth Roberts abode Holywell but married at Baghillt 05.08.1775 which seems to be appropriate.

My problem now is how do I determine which is my branch in Wales as Evans and Roberts are prolific.

Can anyone help me find John Evans and Elizabeth Roberts baptism circa 1764?

Hope you can put me on the correct route

Eileen
