Whatever the information is, I think you still have to prove the facts to yourself as best you can. Sometimes it is right though, and otherwise why would we get them?
I do have a really bad example of a NSW death certificate in which my relative who was a very difficult person to get along with probably couldn't be bothered giving any helpful information! That's the downside.

Well I didn't mean to upset anyone. I love the English census. We don't have those  :).
I have NSW issued death certificate c.1902 received this week.  It was a coroner's case.  He did not know the parents and is the informant but is says thought to be residing in London, and her maiden name is given in the newspaper article regarding her inquest.
The certificate also gives her former married name.  It says she had no children, where she was born, how long she had been living in Australia and that she had gone back to live in England for two years and gives her spouse's name. Where she was married at what age and to whom. Where she is buried and details of undertaker and witnesses at burial. Minister of religion. Age (thought to be wrong). Occupation. Where inquest held.
Her parents were given on her marriage certificate to her second husband. Her mother's surname was misspelt, but close enough to work out. I just took a punt on getting these certificates to see if she was the woman who disputed a family will. The information about her going back to London for two years was extremely helpful in context of her testimony in the probate package.
This is just an example of what might be found, but each country, or maybe even state here obviously does it differently and each has it's own attributes.

Travelling People / Trapeze Artist - Europe
« on: Thursday 06 January 11 11:27 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for info on my ancestor of name unknown who was an Irish trapeze artist who migrated to Germany.  I understand trapeze was invented in Paris in 1859. Surname could be Becker or married a Becker.

I have been looking at this website.  It is terrific at explaining the information on certificates. Would endorse your recommendation. Many thanks to all again :)

Unbelievable.  I can't believe it. They could learn something from us Aussies, there is a heap of information on ours. :o

Apart from my shock, I thank you for your very prompt reply.Much appreciated.

Would like to know which year that they start including the names of the deceased's parents on death certificates in England, rather than just a witness?
Thank you.

Hello Sue

Emily Maria Lane married Joseph Mark Bennett, my great-grandparents. Charles Lane therefore is my great-great-great grandfather.
Have info from Lane family reunion from about 20 years ago in Newcastle, NSW.

Devon Lookup Requests / Re: Lookup Devon request John POTTER Exeter

Actually Evie, I may have solved it in a convulted way. I noticed yesterday when searching Free BMD for deaths of possible Potter parents that Wellington Somerset ones were given when you requested "Devon" as a county search.  I know that Wellington is 20 miles from Exeter and near the border.

I came across someone else on the census last night called Henry Potter that there were way too many coincidences with my (assumed correct) John Potter. I found John on the 1841 census in Uffclume, Devon. Might be down as "Patter". Father later changes profession to working in a wool factory. Too common a name for sure!

Henry Potter also gives birthplace as both Wellington or Exeter, also a baker, also lived in Bristol and London, and one of his children  Mary Ann must be the one on John Potter's 1881 census in Bristol as boarder. Correct age and birthplace.

Also, I think John's daughter Eliza Julia Potter  (at 61) must have married her second cousin as she married Henry Potter (groom was 71!) whose father Henry Potter was a baker too. I was actually looking for her death when I worked all this out.

Thanks. I always get inspired after a post :D!

Thank you  so much Evie.  Have wondered about that one. Just thought the age might be wrong as was probably 1829 if baptised in January of 1830. His age on the other census I have found and at  death is 1831. I have been looking at the parents for that one and possible deaths. I appreciate your help.
