Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: Danish Birth Register Entry
« on: Thursday 16 December 10 18:29 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks for the tip veeblevort; and for having a go Isabel H.

It doesn't help in deciphering that I don't speak Danish.  Having said that I have succeeded with other entries - just depends on the writing of the registrar.

This couple married 27 August 1889 in Goulburn, New South Wales.

Between August 1888 and May 1892 they arrive in New Zealand.

They had 6 children, many of whom were cared for by church orphanages from time to time, around the Wellington area.

What happened to John and Sarah?  Did they die in NZ (3 possible deaths only for John, and it does not appear that Sarah died in NZ) or return to Australia?

What of their children?

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Danish Birth Register Entry

This seems impossible to me, but I would like to be able to read line 3, so that I can translate it from Danish to English.  There is quite a bit written in the notes column (the last one).

Many thanks

Australia / Ruth BRADDON went walkabout to where?
« on: Wednesday 15 December 10 00:46 GMT (UK)  »
Hi folks

It was suggested that I post in this forum asking for checks of the Electoral Rolls, Births, Marriage and Deaths for Australia in the hope of tracking down our dear missing young lady.

She was born Ivey Ruth Abine/Abina BRADDON in 1893, New Zealand but went under Ruth as her first name.

There is one record of her at school in NZ and another in 1914 on the Electoral Roll here.  After that she disappears.  She does not marry here, nor does she die here.

Her mother is listed as Julia Emily Ann BRADDON, father Not Recorded.  (Emily had no other known children in NZ and died young).  It is believed that Ruth was raised by someone other than her mother as she is not noted in her mothers death notice (when Ruth would have been 7 years old).

So I was musing that seeing that her family had traversed the ditch on several occasions to Victoria (namely Sandridge) that she may have gone there to stay with relatives perhaps?  There were also Braddon's in Tasmania, New South Wales & Queensland that I know of so far.

Bozzle10 checked out the resources they had on VIC.  scotmum checked out the Australian Archives and TROVE was checked as well.

I have trawled through as many of the Australian National Archive Resources online; and am in contact with the owner of the Braddon website in the UK and another descendant.

So if anyone in their travels would care to remember to look for Ruth we would very much appreciate it.

Many thanks
