Dublin / Re: lookup birth record Dublin - Usher Tinkler
« on: Wednesday 03 October 12 12:40 BST (UK)  »
G'day johnjensen, Doran54 & shanew147,

Shane. Don't know where exactly in Dublin my Tinkler's were unfortunately, but thanks for the COfI/COfE tip.
The introduction to Irish Records is an excellent piece of work - well done!

johnjensen. That was a very nice pickup on the 1855 marriage between George & Judith.

Doran. In my own short amount of research experience I personally have found not everything on an***ry is 100% accurate. Thats why I try to get original source documents if available, thanks for the info you sent.

Thank you all for your great help.

Kind regards,
Stephen.

G'day shanew147 & LH, thanks very much for your quick reply.

shanew147 the information you discovered on Ann Tinkler is very likely to be Usher's mother.
I wonder what years George & Ann died in Tinnakill.
Usher's Australian death certificate states his father George was a farmer, so the workshop/stables makes sense.

LH you are right, it is a very unusual name and again very likely there is some link to the later "nephew" Tinkler's at Rathangan, Co Kildare.

Appreciate all your help.

Kind regards,
Stephen

Fermanagh / Re: Enniskillen Court Register – Michael & Owen McConnell
« on: Monday 01 October 12 23:32 BST (UK)  »
G'day Elwyn & Rathmore, thanks very much for your fast reply.

The information & new contacts you both provided helps me greatly.
I have emailed the folks at Enniskillen public library and PRONI to see what they have in their archives.
Have also looked up the Mayberry site and have found Owen's page.

I had no idea until a few days ago about the McConnell's of Enniskillen, Fermanagh, Ireland being my ancestors.

Appreciate your help.

Kind regards,
Stephen

Laois (Queens) / Tinkler family of Portnahinch & Coolbanagher
« on: Monday 01 October 12 02:12 BST (UK)  »
Greetings I am searching for information about my Irish Tinkler family. Usher Tinkler born between 1815 to 1820 in Dublin to parents George Tinkler (farmer) & Ann Green.

Usher's death certificate it states he was born Dublin and his religion was Church of England.

Usher Tinkler named his new home in Australia Portnahinch after the place he live in Ireland. He was the only family member that we know of who came to Australia in 1841.

Were there any other siblings? I am guessing the Tinkler's may have originally come from England and settled in Ireland at some point in time.

The Tinkler's were farmers and later lived around Portnahinch & Coolbanagher area in Laois/Queens Co.

Any help would be appreciated.

Kind regards,
Stephen

Fermanagh / Enniskillen Court Register – Michael & Owen McConnell
« on: Monday 01 October 12 01:30 BST (UK)  »
Greetings, my ancestor Owen McConnell & his brother Michael McConnell (son's of Terence McConnell & Bridget McGivney) were tried and convicted for murder in 1830 at Fermanagh and sentenced to 14 years transported to Sydney Cove in 1830.

In 1830 Owen was married with a family of 7 children and he was 50 years of age and Michael was 38 years of age.

I would like to know if there is any way to find out more about the trial details that relates to their conviction if possible please? Are Irish court records from 1830's available to see on line as a "public record"

Kind regards
Stephen

Fermanagh / Enniskillen Parish Register – McConnell & Dunn
« on: Monday 01 October 12 01:08 BST (UK)  »
Greetings, my ancestor Owen McConnell (born around 1780 to 1790, son of Terence McConnell & Bridget McGivney) married Mary Dunn (daughter of Patrick & Mary Dunn) sometime between 1800 to 1810. They were Roman Catholic.

Owen & Mary gave birth to a daughter in Enniskillen named Sarah McConnell in 1810, as well as at least 4 other children named John, Michael, Patrick & Bridget McConnell.

I am interested to know the year Owen & Mary were married and/or any other details if anyone can help me please.

Kind regards,
Stephen

Census Lookup and Resource Requests / Re: 1841 Census for ship "Gilbert Henderson"
« on: Saturday 29 September 12 01:34 BST (UK)  »
G'day Miss May, thanks for your helpful & kind reply.

It's highly possible Bridget "Biddy" McConnell who arrived on the Gilbert Henderson was Sarah McConnell's sister.

I've also just found a shipping record for Mary Dunn, it appears she was the wife of an Owen McConnell who was transported to Sydney Cove in 1830 along with his young brother Michael McConnell on a ship sailing from Ireland named Hercules at "his majesties pleasure" for 14 years. There could also be a third brother named James McConnell who was already in Australia at that time, they appear to come from Enniskillen, Fermanagh, Ireland.

We "think" Mary Dunn & her 4 children may have arrived on board a ship named Diamond about 1838 from Ireland.

Records show Owen McConnell got his ticket of leave 8 years early in 1836, rather than in 1844 he must have been a good boy. It was granted to him by the Illawarra Bench in July of that year.

Sarah McConnell's death certificate states she was Catholic.

Anyone else reading this post in the future that is related to any of the names listed above feel free to contact me.

My search continues...

Kind Regards,
Stephen

G'day Miss May,

I have a relation named Sarah McConnell from Enniskillen, Fermanagh, Ireland who may have been on board the "Gilbert Henderson" that arrived in 1841 with your other relations in your earlier post.

I would be interested to know if you have discovered any new census information for the passengers or where I might find a passenger list for this ship please?

Thanks,
Stephen
