Technical Help / Deactivation of desktop icons

I'm operating a PC with Vista Home Premium and Internet Explorer 8

When I fire up the PC the icons on my desktop allow activation of programs as normal. However sometime during the session the icons cease to function although I can still start software from the side bar.

I thought this loss had coincided with my downloading Skype software so I deleted Skype, but the icons still don't work! I subsequently activated the webcam function of Facebook which appears to be functioning OK.

Any suggestions to sorting the loss of function of my desktop icons gratefully accepted!

Derbyshire Lookup Requests / WALKER marriage - Castleton/Hope c.1775

Seeking a marriage, possibly in Hope/Castleton circa 1775, for a Micah/Michal/ Michael WALKER to a Margaret UNKNOWN. Micah and Margaret went on to have 11 children mostly in Abney, christened at Hope and Tideswell.

Any leads gratefully accepted!

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / SUCH/PRINLIN marriage Daylesford

From maps I can see that Daylesford is close to a number of county boundaries. Guided by Genuki I posted this request initially on the Worcs, board, but this has drawn no responses. I thought that trying the Gloucester board might be more effective.

I now think the Prinlin name may be of French origin.

Technical Help / Facebook log in problem COMPLETE

I am having a problem logging in to Facebook from my machine but can do it from a family member's laptop. For the last few days when attempting to log in I get a message “SECURE YOUR ACCOUNT” which says I appear to have downloaded software displaying unauthorised ads. The solution offered is to download software from McAfee. When I attempt to download this software IE blocks the download!

I have looked on the FB Help pages and found an item about warning messages thought to be spam. When I try to read this help I get “There was a problem reaching the page or FAQ you requested.” This makes me even more frustrated!

Have I picked up something nasty and if so how do I get rid of it please? ,

Worcestershire Lookup Requests / Daylesford Marriage 1817 SUCH-PRINLIN?

I would be most grateful if SKS with access to the PRs for Daylesford could confirm the marriage of John Such and Ann Prinlin on 6 Aug 1816.

I obtained the reference from a contact who sourced it from FamilySearch I believe. I have never heard of the surname Prinlin and wonder if it could be a mis-transcription.

If there was a Prinlin family in the district I would of course be interested in any further details!!!!

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / COMPLETED Restore granny please

I would be most grateful if the good people on site could restore this photo of granny for my daughter. There are three white spots on the face/nose and it would be good if the 'metallic sheen' effect on her jumper could be removed too.

Derbyshire Lookup Requests / HOPE PRs - WALKER of Abney c1785

I wonder if SKS with access to the Hope PRs could tell me whether Micah/Michael Walker and Margaret Hall had any male children at Abney in the approx. period 1776-1800 please?

I have found five females (Martha, Mercy, Mary, Sarah and Hanah) on LDS batch C031315 but have so far been unable to locate any boys in this period, other than a William christened at Tideswell in 1797.
