Hi Leeroy,
I am about to send you a Rootschat Private Message.

Just to give you a possible contact for a descendant. May or may not.....

Anyhow, in my opinion and experience, there is nothing to be lost by making contact.

That's good CoL.
I fear that even if the children of Colleen and Lionel could be located, the memories of the 1920's held by their grandfather regarding Nelly, might have been lost to all.

My intention now is to reach out to the Evans family. Perhaps they might have some photographs of Nellie/Lily when she was young.

Use the search box here https://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/
Search as a guest and enter Leonard Trellisian Evans.
This will give you his digitised RAAF service record of Lily and John Evans' son, Len.  It is very large, out of chronological order and contains blank pages etc.  Plod through ;D.

It holds the names of his 2 children. Daughter born 1943 Son born 1944

This I believe is the death notice of the son. 2021. Age not given so cannot be be certain
https://www.mytributes.com.au/notice/death-notices/evans-lionel-patrick/5763350/

This is likely the daughter with a matching birth and death year.

I had missed that Judith.
Yes, it is HUMES.

Nontheless I think my theory that Edward Henry DELANEY is the son of Edward HAINES and wife Kezia (nee DELANEY) stands up ok.

So this guy either FRAZER, DELANEY OR HAYNES!! Did you read "Haynes" for this James as her Godfather??  I thought it said HUMES in the newspaper report and I didn't join the dot's.

trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/233874142  Thanks Dianna

The print is bad in the newspaper, but to my eyes it is HAINES with the middle letters blurred a bit.

When I look at the Archives NSW record concerning Lily McNally I see 3 people to whom she was boarded out between 1920 and 1923

Mrs Shepherd of Bringally
Mrs L Douglas Webbs Creek Hawkesbury River
Eliz Lee, 20 Carringotn Street Balmain
Drummond House 1923

Perhaps Mrs Evans came later.

In closing off my notes on this.
Sadly no birth record found for Lila Grace.

However, you mght be interested in this. We must allow for the alternative spellings HAYNES/HAINES

The story of Lila Beatrice "running away" in 1909
https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/247937669

This case was heard round 10th March 1909.
The accused man (enticing her off for carnal reasons!) was named Edward Henry DELANEY

According to the reports-
Lila had been lodged in the care of her godfather, James HAINES and Mrs HAINES at Young.

Mrs HAINES was nee DELANEY.

Birth of her son
HAYNES EDWARD H
33864/1888
F. EDWARD
M. KEZIA
ORANGE

Parent's marriage
4051/1888
HAYNES Edward
DELANEY Kerzia
DUBBO

The marriage between Lila Beatrice and Edward Henry HAYNES took place in April 1909.

She had actually run away with the man she married within weeks of the event. ;D
