Hi there- I am really interested in finding out if this is the John Paterson I am trying to find.
He's in your list as
JOHN   PATERSON   13/01/1954
Do you by any chance have a photograph of this grave?

I would be so grateful to see if it's the right one.

Fingers crossed.

HI there,

Sorry for the delay. Yes John is buried in Cadder and I have a photo of the headstone. If you could send me a message with your email address on it, Ill send it to you.

Chris

Renfrewshire / Cant Find Andrew Glovers death 1901 to 1913 (Complete)
« on: Wednesday 28 April 21 10:21 BST (UK)  »
Andrew Glover, a seaman, was born circa 1838 in Antrim. He married Elizabeth Stewart in Antrim in 1861 and moved to Greenock, where they had seven children from 1862 to 1882. He was still alive at his daughters wedding in 1895 and appears to be in Greenock Hospital in the 1901 census. His wife dies in 1913 and her death certificate states she is a widow.

Ive searched the whole of Scotland from his daughters wedding to his wife's death and can find no trace of his death. There are only two Andrew Glovers in the whole of Scotland that come close to the right birth date and its not them. At 63 in 1901, would he have gone back to sea? All of the census returns from 1871 to 1891 he is not present, I surmise he's at sea.

Any help would be appreciated.

Do you have her marriage record to see her address and occupation?

Was her father, Robert still living at the time of her marriage?

No I dont. I will have to send for the marriage from the GRO

That is a surprise. Sort of clouds things up again a little. However, the family with son Robert in 1841 and then entries for an Elizabeth with grandmother do look promising  ;)

Monica

Ive just noticed, Its the same address the child James Freeland Gardner was born in, so its definitely not the right family. Think this is just one of those Ill have to admit defeat in  :o

James Freeland Gardner birth in 1869 is at 23 George Street in the city centre. Elizabeth Freeland Gardiner's occupation is warehouse worker. Child is illegitimate.

The childs death in 1874 is at 27 Wilson Street, Partick, the mother is still single. This two years after our Elizabeth Gardner got married in Kendal. Another dead end im afraid.

Thanks Monica, I also think Alexander and Ann are Roberts parents. Ancestry also pointed my in their direction. Not being able to find Robert Gardner & Elizabeth Freeland's deaths in Scotland or England is like hitting my head off a brick wall.  ;D

There was a James Freeland Gardner born in Glasgow in 1869 to an Elizabeth Freeland Gardner, no father named, who then died aged 5, with death registered in Partick. Could this have been the same Elizabeth who then married in 1872? Not a common name combination.

Sight of both certificates might yield further clues (eg address/es, who registered the birth/death). If it was the same Elizabeth who had the child, it doesn't sit well though with the suggeston in this old, related post https://www.british-genealogy.com/forum/threads/5111-GARDNER-on-1851-Index-help that Elizabeth was already in Westmorland in 1871, with a daughter but no son.

Anyhow, something else to investigate at least.

All leads help, as Ive said this one has stumped me for ages. ;) That lead is excellent and clears up the 1871 & 1861 census returns for Ambleside. Thank you  :)

What was Robert the father’s occupation, and age at marriage?

His occupation is given as a farmer on Elizabeths death certificate. However the birth of Grace it says he was a Brewer.
