Buckinghamshire / Re: Marriage William Horner - Sarah Pearsey(Piearcy ?)
« on: Wednesday 26 September 12 08:54 BST (UK)  »
Hi there - I hope this isn't a complete waste of time, but just a thought - have you tried searching Homer instead of Horner

This suggestion rather assumes there is some reason why your searches are not bringing up the bride's name either, of course. I have connections between Goughs of north Bucks, and Homers in south Northants, so there are certainly Homers in the area. Possibly Horner was mis-heard as Homer - and written down they may well look similar.

Good searching!

Hi there Selina

Download PC Login Now, burn it to a disc and use it to delete the computer's password; it's free and exactly for this sort of emergency:

http://www.pcloginnow.com/

I've never had to use it, but keep a copy on a CD just in case. There are instructions on the website too.

Technical Help / Re: Internet Explorer problem
« on: Wednesday 29 August 12 13:21 BST (UK)  »
Hi there

Just happened upon this thread.

You can install as many browsers as you want. Don't feel limited because you already have IE. By all means install Chrome and see if you like it. There is no need to uninstall IE - if you never use it again, it won't conflict with your chosen browser.

Browsers are a bit of a personal thing. I don't specially take to Chome myself - but that's not to say there's anything wrong with it - far from it. I use Opera (it is an e-mail program as well as a browser, so I have e-mail on one tab, internet on others), but also use Firefox, and Evolution. Try them all out and see which you feel happiest using.

Buckinghamshire / Re: Buckingham PR marriage and death lookup request

Surname spelling variations are all accommodated - no problems there - it affects most names to some greater or lesser degree, and the database holders are used to that one - good luck when you get back to it !

Hi Ruskie - it's a while since your posts, so things have probably moved on for you, but I just wanted to clarify that Buckinghamshire Family History Society does indeed have Marsh Gibbon parish register entries in its database. The parish has not been published as a CD transcription though, because for some later years the transcription is not yet complete.

If you've not already tried, the Society will undertake database searches. Preceed '@bucksfhs.org.uk' with the word baptisms, marriages or burials to make contact with the relevant database holder.  A single surname search per event type for all parishes per 100 years is £3.

Warwickshire Lookup Requests / Re: Hatten / Hatton of Ratley
« on: Tuesday 28 February 12 13:25 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks very much indeed, Ciderdrinker - this negative is still extremely useful, and I'm very grateful to you
for taking the trouble. You've been a great help.

The family is from Duns Tew in Oxfordshire, but John held land in Ratley. Unfortunately, the Duns Tew registers
are incomplete - one was missing in the nineteenth century - and the BTs are not entirely complete, so there
are various gaps to work around. But it seemed just a little odd that none of the children at all had a baptism
entry in Duns Tew. That doesn't rule out elsewhere of course - I can only keep searching !

Thanks again. All the best.

Warwickshire Lookup Requests / Hatten / Hatton of Ratley
« on: Monday 27 February 12 22:03 GMT (UK)  »
I have Hatten ancestors with a connection to Ratley. It's my only connection to Warwickshire, and I wonder if any researcher would be kind enough to check for a marriage there between John Hatten and Alice (surname unknown) in the early 1700s; or any children baptized to them there. Known children's names are:
William Edward; Jane (married one Ausburn); Mary; and Alice (possibly baptized 1729).

The registers for Ratley are online to Ancestry subscribers (only), I understand.

Thank you for any help, which will be greatly appreciated.

Technical Help / Re: photo help

Hi Sue

If I understand your question correctly, just right click anywhere, and from the menu which appears, select 'New Folder'. A folder will then be created, and while the words 'new folder' or whatever are still highlighted you can name it something of your choice by typing. If you
miss the opportunity on folder creation, just right click on the folder again and select 'Rename'. Then you can drag your photos into the folder.

All the best

Graham
