I don't think so fissix as there is no other connection to that area or a George Davis and I would have expected his wife to have been living with him.

Thanks you so much anyway.

Hi Wendy

That is so kind of you. I actually came down last year for a holiday (told my daughter it was to visit Peppa Pig World but really it was so I could trail round graveyards)! It is a beautiful part of the country - I would love to know why my ancester left it to come "up north". We visited the church but I couldn't find a grave - I suspect they were quite poor though and would probably have been buried in a communal grave.

Kind Regards

Sam

Hi

I have traced the records of John Yates born 1767 and buried 1850 and his wife Elizabeth born 1769 and buried 1848, both were buried at St James Clanfield. Obviously this means they were both still alive in 1841 but I can find no trace of them. Any ideas?

Thanks

Thanks all - I appreciate your help. Pels I no longer have a subscription to 1911 census so can't check.

Hi

Thanks for your reply.

There is no other connection to Halifax and her daughter Elsie was not born until 1910 (though I can't say for sure that Annie was Elsie's mother). Also Alfred says he is married in 1911 not a widower.
Someone did say that many women refused to be counted on the 1911 census as aprotest about womens rights - but this is just a guess.
