Armed Forces / Royal Navy records for joining attempt around 1881-84
« on: Saturday 01 December 12 10:29 GMT (UK)  »
I'm trying to find out if a Frederick Warwick Gibson b 1 Sept 1866  in St. Pancras or a Frederick George Evans b 1 Sept 1868 in Kings Cross attempted to join the RN between 1880 and 1884.

Frederick George joined in 1884 and I have records from then.  However we have not found any birth or any other records for a Frederick George Evans or his family (all we know of other family is father Thomas an accountant deceased, listed on Fredericks marriage cert in 1891).

Family story is Frederick ran away to join the RN but was sent away as he was too short also that he changed his name.

We have found records for a Frederick Warwick Gibson b 1866 - so did he try and join the RN under Gibson first and then changed his name and lied about his age when he successfully joined in 1884.  Or...are they 2 diffrent people!

Any tips or help would be really gratefully received.

Does anyone know how I could find out where my Irish ancestors in Caribee Island, Wolverhampton came from in Ireland?  Would they have to register or be noted somewhere?  Any tips would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Hi

I have a William McNally born abt 1850 in Wolverhampton, in 1851 census he is 6 months old and only son of Peter and Mary McNally and they are living in Caribbee Island. Peter is an Agricultural Labourer from Ireland, peter is 30 and wife Mary is 24.  My 2nd Gt Grandfather Patrick Loftus and his wife Bridget and son Martin are visiting (but also live in Caribee Island)

Possible this William is your Jane's husband.

Hi

My 2nd Gt Grandfather, Patrick Loftus b around 1816 first appeared in Caribee Island in 1844 when his son Martin was born.  Patrick's wife was Bridget nee McNally.  In 1851 census they are visiting Peter and Mary McNally, presumably relatives in Caribee Street.  Patrick's occupation in 1851 is ropespinner.

Sadly, I have no idea where Patrick came from in Ireland and when he settled in Wolverhampton.

Any pointers you might have on how I can trace them either in Caribee Island over the years (or how I can trace Irish origin) would be fantastic!
