New Zealand Completed Requests / Re: John Thomas ATTWOOLL. Hunting for him
« on: Monday 28 March 11 03:50 BST (UK)  »
Thanks for those Beg.  The 1910 marriage was one of the children of her second marriage to Leon, my Grandmother was another child of theirs. Leon and Ann are buried in different cemeteries in Gisborne.    Never knew about the elusive John til I got the Genealogy bug and started hunting for proof that the family history really was as told to me.  The Poswillos are proving difficult to track down as well, but that's another thread to start sometime in the future.

John was born Portland Dorset c1845 married Ann Northover READ 1869 came to NZ with their 3yo son John Northover Read ATTWOOLL on the "Assaye" arr Dec 1874. Ann appears in Gisborne married to/living wih another man, first child born 1880. Can't find a death or graveyard for John, but on another site found a tree with the same names on it and contacted the gentleman who compiled it and after him doing some searching he found an inscription on a gravestone from St George's Church Portland in memory of William Attwooll. and it has a line for John Thomas who died in NZ May 21st 1876 aged 31 years.  John was a quarryman and there were some more quarrymen on the Assaye.  Did they come out here to work a quarry somewhere or just for a better life? and where did John and Ann live before he died and she appears in Gisborne?  So many questions there, hope someone can follow my thinking and fill in some of the answers for me.. Ann and her new husband are my GG parents and on their death certs their marriage date is the same as the marriage to John but in London not Weymouth and can find no record of the second marriage.

Lanarkshire / Re: Cambusnethan Cemetery Grave Search

Dear Lodger and Sage,
Thank you both very much for your prompt replies very much appreciated.
Have been trying to sort that out for sometime, joined RootsChat and within 24 hours the answers flowed in.   Janet R was a puzzle, not on the census but seemingly died aged 21, need a higher powered magnifying glass! Will read and digest and enter them into my records and maybe come back with another curly question for you at a later stage.
Regards

ps.. there is another topic I have found that will hopefully assist me in sorting things out entitled.. Help tracing ROBERTSON/ROSS/NEILSON/RUSSELL/WRIGHT. So here goes.

I am just new to RootsChat and have been reading the posts on this link and it seems most questions can be answered, so hope some one can please help with the location of this gravestone and maybe fill in the parts I can't read. In the 1891 census the family lived at 261 Cambusnethan St, but haven't got the 1901 details as yet.  Any help would be much appreciated.

I have recently joined RootsChat and this is my first attempt at joining in so hope it goes well.
Searched for my GMA's maiden name Mary Neilson ROBERTSON and found this discussion.  Have gained some useful information to help my research and even though these postings are over a year old if cosmo64 is still out there, I have a Robertson family photo taken early 1900's I think, need to check the 1911 census as there seem to be more children than expected, and a photo  of a family gravestone somewhere in Scotland.  I seem to remember seeing a discussion on this site about Cambusnethan cemeteries so will post the photo there and hope to find out it's location.
