Armed Forces / Re: The army early 1800s - what regiment would Irishmen have joined?
« on: Monday 04 February 19 14:46 GMT (UK)  »
Hi. My GGGrandfather joined the 60th Rifles in Bandon Co Cork 1802 age 21.It was originally the Kings regiment .Now the Royal Greenjackets. He had a son born Portsmouth 1829 and 2 daughters born Co Clare  1830 and 1833 Ireland when he was stationed there.I found his papers on ancestry. He was signed out at PAISLEY Scotland 1845 with 25 years service and had rheaumatoid Athritis. So maybe you will find something on Ancestry that would help with your search. I have just found your cousin Hugh Mcgill Munros marriage to Alice Friel .1940 on Scotlands people.
Cant believe they were married in Holy cross Croy.Tommy Munro was a witness. The chapel in Twechar wasnt built till 1947.The reason i know this is because my brother in law was the first to be baptised in the new chapel .I also found Elizabeth Munro your cousin who married a Carr. They married in Lennoxtown.Elizabeth died 2001.Im sure you could easily find some of their family .There is a Lennoxtown facebook page that i am on and i found cousins of my mums who stayed there.
