Hello,

Does anyone have any photos or info relating to the old H.A. Evans Hairdresser's shop at 70-72 Warwick Street in Leamington Spa?

The only photo I have is  this one which only partially shows the shop.

http://www.search.windowsonwarwickshire.org.uk/engine/resource/default.asp?txtKeywords=warwick+street+AND+leamington&lstContext=1&lstResourceType=-1&lstExhibitionType=-1&chkPurchaseVisible=&txtDateFrom=&txtDateTo=&originator=%2Fengine%2Fsearch%2Fdefault_hndlr.asp&page=6&records=97&direction=1&pointer=12543&text=0&resource=4579

There was also a previous shop in Clarendon Street, (James Evans, Hairdresser) if anyone has got any info on that. I think the numbers were 49 and later no 65.

Many thanks,

Jeremy

Tanya,

Are you a member of the Stead-Steed one name study?
Their databases may have details of your Hannah Stead.

Hello,

this house is on Pixmore Way, near the roundabout with Norton Way South.

I have just found some details on wikipedia - it says that the name comes from a place in Shropshire.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Shelvoke

The Harry Shelvoke you mention is connected with the Shelvoke & Drewry firm of dustcart manufacturers which were in Letchworth  There may be details on the firm held in the garden city heritage museum.
the museum will probably have plans of the house.
There is also a local studies section in the public library which may hold info.

Gadget,

The death certifcate for Richard Evans clearly says the age is 54
He died 22 July 1855 in Shrewsbury.
On that basis, I am looking for a birth/baptism somewhere in the period 1800-1802, which also fits the age he was on the 1841 census.

Aitch,

Have you checked to see if Lichfield Record office hold a will for your John Daykene (or other people of that surname)?
I managed to find a number of wills and also marriage licences from Lichfield RO for member of my EATON family who were residing in the Bonsall/Winster area in the late 1600s. The ages/fathers mentioned on the marriage licences helped to provide info on their origins, as one of the baptisms I needed was missing due to the lack of the Bonsall registers before 1657.

A Daniel Dakin is mentioned on the Bonsall poll tax list of 1689.

Gadget,

thank you for the information. They may be non-conformist. their son James was baptised in St Mary's Shrewsbury in 1830.

Have you got the details of how to get hold of the montgomeryshire baptism index.

Many thanks,

Jeremy

Montgomeryshire / Richard Evans, born c.1800
« on: Tuesday 26 August 08 13:11 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to track down the birth of a Richard EVANS.
On the 1841 and 1851 census he was in Shrewsbury. The 1851 census says that he was born in Montgomeryshire. From the age it will be c. 1795-1801.
His wife was called Mary (1851 census says she was born in Shrewsbury), though I have not yet found a marriage for them in the Shrewsbury area. They had a son, James Evans, born in Shrewsbury in 1830.
Richard Evans died in Shrewsbury in 1855, so I can't check if the 1861 census offers a more specifc place to look.
I  know that Montgomeryshire is a large area to search. I would be grateful if anyone can offer any information regarding the birth of Richard Evans or for a marriage of richard & Mary.

Many thanks,
Jeremy

I thought that you could now order certificates online from the GRO even if you were living overseas.
the pricing structure mentions that airmail delivery of certificates is included for overseas customers.
