Thank you for that Mike - it explains why I couldn't find an attached graveyard, I assumed it had been built on.

I'm assuming the cemetery you mean is the one you can see on your right as you pass down from Normanby in the direction of Trunk Road/South Bank.  It looks massive, but your hint about the oldest stones being in the south should save some time.

Very many thanks again,

Gordon.

Hello Christopher,

Thank you for that info.  It looks like another visit across the water is called for, though it won't be this year I'm afraid.

Well remember that scary train ride along the shoreline on a very 'shoogly' wee train from Coleraine to Londonderry - couple of weeks later it came off the rails - why am I not surprised  :)

Was hoping someone might be visiting Coleraine Library and have a little look for me in the meantime - still living in hope.

Best wishes from sunny Middlesbrough,

Gordon

Hello Scotmum:

You have gone to a tremendous trouble on my behalf, and after sifting through the various Shaws I'm sure some of it will be very useful indeed.  Also I'll try to get hold of that Ballymena Gravestone booklet to see if 'our lot' are included.

I can't thank you enough,

Gordon.

Hello:

To Ericx and Andy001 - thank you both very much; to be honest I'd kinda forgotten the MLFHS which I think is one of the best in the country.

To skb:   Brilliant!!!  Wonder where you dug that one out from  :)   that is the family I'm looking for, and (won't bore you with details but ..) it answers a riddle I've long been trying to solve.   Amusing too that the parents were in a time warp (exactly same age 37/43 as in 1841 and they catch up (56/63) in 1861.

Thank you all for your input, I appreciate very much indeed,

Gordon.

Hello again:

Thank you again for going to all this trouble - yes, my grandfather Andrew (Daniel's son) was indeed born in the hamlet of Ballygelly (a couple of miles from Buckna), so we're almost certainly on the right lines!! I imagine 'widow Shaw' must mean Daniel's mum.  I wonder if the 'sister' and 'daughter' you mention and the 'Esther' we previously mentioned, are all one and the same.  Intriguing,

Thank you again,

Gordon.

Hello Megg,

I have a bunch of 19th century Fraters from East Lothian/Edinburgh area; any possibility they may coincide with yours??

Regards

Gordon

Hello,

I have a family who I find in Brick Croft, Pendleton in 1841, and in Timothy Street, Barton in 1861; yet in 1851 - zilch!!  I guess they must be among the missing entries.  I'm wondering if there's anyone out there with access to some of these missing census returns.

Just in case, the family are:  William Lamb (b Cheshire 1805-ish) a gardener; wife Jane (b Chesterfield, Derbyshire 1798-ish); and several children born from 1829 onwards (only 'distinctive' one is Elizabeth Vickers Lamb).

Hoping someone just might be able to find them for me.  Thank you in advance,

Gordon.

Hello Scotmum - gosh that was quick - I only just posted  :D

Thank you for that info - I did have some previous info on an Esther, though haven't been able to fit her into the family and we have had none of that name subsequently;  but the Daniel/David sounds very feasible, as (if it is Daniel) it would be just 3 years or so before his marriage.

Thank you so much, and I'll keep my fingers crossed for further feedback.  Just shows what a 'busy' site this is.    Best wishes,

Gordon.

Yorkshire (North Riding) Lookup Requests / Eston MI's
« on: Saturday 06 May 06 18:05 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I think it was Mike offering look-ups for Eston MI's.

I have 'lost' a couple of our Denney family - in particular Edward Denney who died ca 1860 aged about 43.   I believed he was buried at Christ Church, but on visiting there it looks like it's all been built up over the graveyard and the manse was eerily deserted.

Many thanks,

Gordon.
