The marriage certificate says Welshpool...........................which covers a multitude of sins.  The witnesses were both Joneses, David and Sarah, also not too helpful unless Sarah was a sister who became incognito by marrying a Jones!   Dave (Jones)

Further to my last, Llanwenog parish comes under Lamperter District.   You may wish to try this with freeBMD.   Cheers Dave

We all have the joy of researching the dread John Jones.   Cwrtnewydd is a small village approx 6miles NW of Llanybydder, or 6 miles W of Lampeter in the county of Cardiganshire now known as Ceredigion.   Llanwnog is the parish in which Cwrtnewydd is stuated.   You may like to try Llanybydder as a possible place name.   As you probably know Welsh ancestry is very frustrating due to the use of patronymics in naming children.   So Jones is the son of John, Jenkins is the son of Jenkin (Siencyn in Welsh) etc.   I too have the same problems and can sympathise with you and I was born not 20 miles from Cwrtnewydd!   Best of luck and hwyl fawr i chi.   Dave

Cardiganshire / CLEMENTS and JENKINS families of Aberystwyth
« on: Wednesday 06 April 05 23:52 BST (UK)  »
Who was Edward Clements?  I guess he was born about 1795 and was living in Aberystwyth at the time of his daughter Catherine's marriage to William Jenkins 18 Dec 1842.   At that time he was a soldier but nothing more is known about him.   Any info greatly appreciated.
William Jenkin's father Edward is also an elusive character.   Born around 1785 he was a tailor of note in Aberystwyth in the early 19th century.    He was probably overwhelmed by orders for the fashionable 'Welsh trowsers' for the gentry to parade on the Prom in the 1820s, but little else is known of his family apart from the fact that he married Jane Owen 30 Dec 1817.
Is there anyone who has information on these families?  How about some facts on these two genuine Cardis.

Hi Jan, thanks for the respose.   I know that Joseph Trow was alive in 1851 because I have his daughter's marriage certificate from 1856.   I originally thought that they came from the south of the county where there are many Trows.   I shall try the 1841 Census next as you suggested.   Regards Dave

Does anybody know of the family of Joseph Trow, born approx 1815 probably Berriew or Welshpool.   He was a butcher and his daughter, Jane, was born about 1836 in Berriew.   She married Joseph Renfrey 1 July 1856 in Welshpool Parish Church.   Any information on Joseph and family most welcome
