Wiltshire / Re: Alderton Old School House

I have been to Alderton this morning and, thanks to the kind lady who currently lives there, I have been able to confirm that this photo was definitely taken at Alderton School.
Just need to work out which of the lads is my grandfather now :D :D

Wiltshire / Alderton Old School House

Hi,
I have found a photo which I think may include my grandfather who was born in Alderton in 1895. Does anyone recognise the building as being the Old School House. Most of the photos I can find on line show the front of the building but I think this was taken at the side.

Jen- thanks again, I did have the 1851 census for Elizabeths family, and I have the family in 1861 but she is not with them.
Modified- In 1861 Elizabeth is still in Hasting living as a servant with the Lindridge family

Maureen - I have been unable to trace a marriage for Elizabeth and Henry , nor a death for her before his second marriage. Maybe they never married, although the son is registered as Henry Pain   :-\

Thank you for your help Jan & Maureen. I was just replying to  Jan that Elizabeth's maiden name was Walker, unless ofcourse she had been married before. ( Her mothers name was Sarah Ann so they were possible as middle names.

Hi Jennifer, thanks again for all your help and the PM. I was looking for him to be with Elizabeth after seeing what I thought was her in 1911, so had discounted the census showing Henry & Emma. Still cant find his marriage to Elizabeth, but that may have been in Sussex where she was born.

Thank you so much for your help Jennifer, I have been searching all morning for him, must be going blind in the process.

Looks like he remarried , so the Elizabeth I found in 1911 must be the wrong one.

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Henry Pain

I am trying without success to trace Henry Pain and his wife Elizabeth in the 1881 or later census.
In 1871 the are living in St Georges Wandsworth, Battersea Henry aged 30, Engine Fitter born Paddington, wife Elizabeth aged 29, born St Leonards Sussex, son Henry aged 3 born Clapham. Elizabeths mother Sarah Walker is also with them, aged 60 born Rochford Essex.
I have found a possible entry for Elizabeth in 1911 , living alone back in St Leonards Sussex. If this is the correct one she had been married 50 years and had 2 children but only one was still living. Henry was not with her, but her status still showed her as married.

Any help with the census details or marriage would be appreciated.

Hi Sammi
I live fairly close to Charfield and will drive there tomorrow weather permitting (Forecasters are threatening us with a slight risk of snow or ice) to see if I can take a photo for you. Please PM me your email address so I can send it to you.

Try emailing Bristol Record Office. I have recently got patient records from Southmead hospital in Bristol from them, so they may have the Bristol Royal Infirmary ones too.
