Wow, thank you so much for the information, I think it is the same family, I have done further research, and found a lot more about the family, I also found a newspaper article (1863) about the family having a servant steal goods from them, the servant was caught by Menai Bridge trying to get away on a boat with the goods.  The name of the people she stole from was Lewis Jones and his wife Ellen of Cae Warren.  I will pass the death information on to the person I was doing the research for. i will try and find the article again and hopefully post it on here.

Thanks again

Hi Ginny44,

Have you got a copy of the death cert for the cause of death?  Just thought there may have been a note on it of an inquest, then as previously mentioned there may have been something in the newspapers of the time.

They were at the same address in the later census, no other children listed with them.

This could be John and Mary Jane's marriage.

I found the family in 1871 RG10 4145 folio 60 page11,

I also found a margaret Knowles with husband Alfred in 1891 with daughter Lizzie age 1 RG12 3356 folio 18 page 2

But we can't just speculate that this is your Margaret but her birth year on the 1891 is 1867.

Hi Badmog,

Have you looked in the marriages on lancashire BMD?  I see sister Mary J Eglin (widow) was living with the family in 1881, I had a look and found she married William Eglin in 1872

Lancashire Marriage indexes for the years: 1872
Surname   Forename(s)   Surname   Forename(s)    Church / Register Office   Registers At   Reference
ASHWORTH   Mary Jane   EGLIN   William   Hyndburn Register Office or Registrar Attended   Preston   RM/37/110

I have also looked in the marriages in the 1880's on the site and there are a few Margaret Ashworth's getting married in the later years, but before 1891, I think it might be a case of trawling through the church records at the library to see if any of the marriages are your Margaret, I would suggest getting a copy of Mary Jane's marriage cert and see if she married in a reg office or catholic church in the area.

There is this one (but there are a few others), I am going by Margarets age in 1881 to make her old enough to get married in 1888.

Hi There,

I had a look in the 1938 Directory for Liverpool and the only Wood surname I could find who was a Blacksmith was Arthur B Wood 11 and 13 Little St Bride Street.  Residing at 22 St Bride Street.

There were quite a number of Blacksmith's listed in the directory at this time.

Hope that helps a bit.
