Yes Jim we  noticed that he went up the ranks very quickly but when I looked at his medal card I only found a victory medal recorded why ? When you say TF relative what do you mean as I have limited army knowledge and TF seems to mean several things Anne

Hi Jim1 The photo was taken at R P Rudd 24 Stanley street Bury . Nothing on the back. James Mills service record army number 32862 s/420455 Don't recall any  previous service . I am now trying to find his fathers service history to see if he served  in any Hussar regiments. Thanks Anne

Thank you Tony for the Hussars link and pointing me in the right direction. At least we know its not James Mills my husbands Gt grandfather but we did  find his service record on Ancestry which was interesting. I didn't know they were online now I remember having to write to individual Regiments for my dads and grandfathers service record. Regards Anne

Dose anybody  recognise this soldiers regiment, we are trying to work out if this is my husbands Gt Grandfather James Mills. His service record states he enlisted Jan 1916 - 1st Batt Kings Own Royal Lancaster regiment, but on his service sheet he appears to be with 22nd Batt Lancashire Fusiliers from april 1916-dec 1916 then with  K O Royal Lancasters in France.  Sorry about photo quality Thoughts please Anne.

Thank you to groom, gaffy, shaunJ, DavidJp, Annette7 and  warpo for all your replies I have been torn whether the first letter is an F or an  R. I shall google and  check out  these team names. We don't recognise any  family members in the photo which  would have helped. Thanks Annette for the Rossendale club info, some family members did come from the Bacup area, and off course gaffy Fairfield is so close to Birtle.  The lads are  very  young looking  a University team is another possibility to look at warpo. I hope I find the team too, just love looking at all these old photo's. Once again all your comments are really appreciated and I will let you know if I find out what team it was.  Regards Anne
