Thank you Cell for hunting up the funeral notice links.

Yes this is the right family as the daughters names match, though they were only just in their teens in the 80s. Sheila's mother May Holland nee Gawn was a cousin of my grandfather so Sheila was my father's second cousin. Another second cousin from the same Gawn family lives in Bangor and knew Sheila and I am in contact with him which is how I knew Sheila had died.

I didn't immediately realise you are in Australia, so thought you might be closer geographically to Sheila's family and would know if any of them was interested in their family history. There is quite a lot known about the Gawn families of Antrim and most of it is available on a website, and many of the photos on our line in the website came from May. The website owner sent me photocopies from May's collection back in the late 80s.

Anyway thank you again.

Would you know most Purdys in Antrim or is the name more common than I think?

I was wondering who (if anyone) might have a collection of photos that once belonged to May Holland of Old Holywood Rd Belfast. Her daughter Sheila Purdy wife of Stanley corresponded with my father after May died in 1988  but my father died in 1994. I have this last week found Sheila's letter of 1988 which includes the names of her daughters but I will not name them. I know Sheila has since died also

Sligo / Re: Greer family of Leaffoney, County Sligo

I have also come across some of the family of the coastguard Greer family of Elizabeth & Robert in the Skreen Parish records (Church of Ireland)

James Nicholsen   Grier Baptised   3/9/1879   Born    27/7/1879      Portavad
Louisia Grier  bap 22/12/1881  born 13/12/1881    Dirkmore

There are many Greers in the Skreen Parish records and a few Martins. I imagine the Fanny Martin of Dunmoran who died in 1919 aged 77 was not your Fanny but another one.

Cheers

Hi Rosniak and Val,

Val I am sorry to hear you have health problems. I do not have any Taggarts in my tree just one person with Taggart as a second name, so I should not be the one to take over.

Yes Rosniak, I did have my doubts about some of the entries on Ancestry. For one, there is a tree where the Robert who inherited the farm from Andrew (see the 1886 will) had emigrated to the USA and died in 1870, 16 years before his father.

It was the Greer family tree that claimed the Mary Taggart who married Israel Greer. I have that 1821 Greer/Taggart marriage from a source outside Ancestry so I do believe this Mary married a Greer. In the Greer tree she is the daughter of an Andrew Taggart and Sarah Wilson. That information does not come from the  1st Donegore marriage as it does not name her father but Francis Taggart of Ballynoe and James Charters of Donegore were witnesses.  I think Val has more information on Francis than has appeared in this thread. Certainly if Mary who married in 1821 was the dau of Andrew and Sarah, then from memory she was close to 40 when she married.

One thing I did note was that none of the trees in Ancestry seemed to have Vals Andrew's second marriage to Isabella Hamilton. That marriage entry gives Andrew's father as William which appears to be new information to most trees.

If anyone does take over from Val, then perhaps they need to start new thread as this one is so long it is hard to keep track. Which is why I tried to restate the family of Andrew as now known.

There was a professional researcher earlier in this thread who was researching Taggart. Maybe she is still watching. ;)

Cheers

Hi Debora,

I don't remember how many posts you need to have before you can use the PM system but you probably do not have enough, so I will send you a message.

I do not have all the earlier generations of Quigleys on my tree as I usually do not do more than note the parents of spouses, unless I suspect there is another link in earlier generations. Such as in your case the Sloane marriages a couple of generations apart. I took the info from the tree of Una Bobby, who I have corresponded with occasionally. Una has my Grahams in her tree but only named the direct Quigley ancestors from her family so your Bannister was not included. There were other trees that I didn't look at.

Re my family, if you happen across these 3 people then I would love to have a photo of their tombstones

Issamenia Graham nee Quigleyt lived to be 99 years old so presumably died in 1963. Her granddaughter Lilly Graham (dau of James) was with her when she died. Lilly wrote that Issamenia is buried at Glenavy, where the Quigley family lived, as were her sons William & Lester Graham. (Lester is aka Alexander).

Cheers

More information.

Wilfred James Henry was in a M T company, does that mean Motor transport? #398913. I think the record in Ancestry says Water truck driver. Is that correct?

So does the hat badge in the photo tie up to Wilfred James Henry?

World War One / Henry family , cap badge ?

This is just the subject I wanted to find out more about. I have no idea of how to find out more about possible military service of a Scottish family.

I have a Glasgow WW1 photo that I think may be of members of my Henry family.

In 1891 Census living at 114 Eaglesham, Plantation
James  HENRY    33    a commercial travellor  born Ireland
Maria HENRY   33   born Colvend, Kirkcudbright, Scotland
Herbert   8   born Ireland
Wilfred J   6   born Ireland
Earnest E   2   born Govan, Larnackshire

Oswald Ewing Henry was born at Plantation Lanarkshire on 22 Nov 1891.
Lewis G Henry born c 1900

My grandfathers WW1 diary records his visit to this family and in Sep 1918 mentions that Earnest was home on leave along with his wife and children. Earnest would have been about 21 in 1918 so just might be the young man in the photo in the sailors uniform with HMS Victory on his hat? Possibly the older man is one of the older brothers. Can anyone identify the regiment from his hat badge?

Thank you

Linda
