Shelly
Apologies for the slow reply. Michael was baptised on  30 Sept 1887 and his birth was registered on 20 Nov 1887 but they also put that date on his birth cert ??? ???.. So that why my posts had conflicting dates at the start. Sorry for all the confusion :)
Thanks
Cathy

Shelly I don't have any idea if he served, so I am grasping at straws to be honest :-[. His brother did serve, he signed up in New York. His other brother, my granddad claimed exemption as he was over age. I really am probably looking for a needle in a haystack :( :(

Hi again,
I have checked out the guy in Dorchester and he is not the same guy in the Draft in Chicago. So theres obviously two guys with same names and same dob's! The joys!! :) :) :) :)
I will keep digging! Does anyone know what were the regiments in Chicago in 1917?
Thanks again so much :)

That would make sense, although in reality he had already 4 years knocked off his age as he was really born in 1873 ;D ;D ;D

Hi Sandra, Yes you are correct and I don't seem to be able to find any information on that SSN number either. Drawing a few blanks! ;)
Thank you :)

Hi,
Could someone advise me as to where I could find a work record on Michael Callahan, who, on the attached picture, states he was a fireman. The address he gave for the return of his passport was 21 Parker Street, Charlestown, and that was in 1922. I found a passenger listing of him returning from Queenstown ,Ireland to Boston, in Sept 1922 and the address he gave was his brothers, 9 Leon Street, Roxbury so I am a bit confused ???. I cannot find any trace of him after that so was hoping that if I could find a work record, it may give me a new lead. Any help & suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in anticipation! :) :)

Oh wow Shelly, that certainly looks like its him ;D ;D ;D ;D. The fact that Skibbereen was given as the birthplace certainly makes it more credible.I will follow up on the Irish side again to rule out any other Michael's born in Skibbereen on that date to be as sure as I can be.
Apologies, yes my dates weren't matching the first post as that was the date of birth I was given to start but since found out the Sept one was the correct one, so apologies again:-[ :-[.
I'm almost skipping  around here with excitement right now :) :) :) :) :) :).
Thank you so so much for your help.
Cath :)

Hi Shelly and Sandra,

Michaels immigration year is correct at 1911, because the address he was traveling to in Boston was where his brother Pat was residing at the time. He didn't have a middle name unfortunately and they seemed to use a little poetic licence with their date of birth when immigrating ;D ;D..
His birth surname was Cahalane, but with a thick Irish accent, it seemed to transcribe to Callahan, which they didnt correct ::) ::)
Michael's brother William was in the US Army, and died at 2 Marshfield Street, Roxbury on 10 Dec 1922(he received the Distinguished Service Cross for bravery) and his brother Pat was also living there at that time. I have come across a Declaration of Intention for a Michael Callahan, born 20 February 1888 (my Michael born 30 Sept 1887), in County Cork, Ireland who travelled from Ireland on board the Ivernia on or about 13 May 1911 (My Michael travelled on Ivernia arriving 11 May 1911) ::) ::) and his address at time of declaration (26 Feb 1912) was 128 Brook Ave, Roxbury. His parents died in Ireland, but one brother John died in Arlington in 1952, the date escapes me at the moment ??? ???.  I am probably clutching at straws here, so please dont let it take up your time but I am so grateful for any direction/ suggestion you could direct me to. :) :).
Thanks again
Cath

Hi Sandra and Shelley,

Yes, the Minnesota one is 1920 and the Brooklyn one is 1930, both of which fit the bill for my guy! What I was trying to ascertain is there any other way of getting addition information other that what is on the census to know if I have the correct man or not :-\.  There may not be any way of finding out but I was hoping for miracles :) :) :) :) :).
Thanks
Cath
