Norfolk Lookup Requests / Re: Norwich baptism - Susannah Watts COLLIER c1803
« on: Friday 22 April 11 02:16 BST (UK)  »
Thanks Yorkslass for finding the marriage bond - I thought I had looked at the positions where it ought to have been. You must be an expert.

It seems to indicate he was a Tin Plate Worker. This is contrary to our understanding that he was in the Army and a Captain at some point.
Thus they are probably another William COLLIER and Susannah. At least it explains the later marriage when our first child Sarah was born in 1790. The Watts in some of the next generation of COLLIER's must come from elsewhere.

Appreciate the help  ...  Jim

Antrim / Re: c1825-40 Belfast marriage - James Steen and Mary Ann Glendinning

Thanks Elwyn. I had previously thought the Will was only legible in part, which I now understand. But some valuable information there.
Do you know if the Belfast Newsletter is likely to have a report of the marriage at this time?

Thanks Linell - that sounds like a good idea  ...  Jim

Thanks Geoff - that's another confirmation to help sort out a father for this family. There are a few William COLLIER's in the Army at this time.

Hello Yorkslass and Junev,

Thanks for the replies. I had a look through the marriage bonds but unable to find the COLLIER/PERKINS one sadly. It might have been very helpful.

The Walduck family tree on Ancestry is mine actually. Just recently saw the baptism record for Sarah COLLIER born 1790, thanks to the Ottery St Mary OPC, and her father William COLLIER was a Corporal in the Prince of Wales 3rd Dragoon Guards. Her mother was Susannah ?
We realised there were several William Collier's in the Army, but William George's record seemed to show he was at the right place at almost the right time, including at some of Horatio Nelson's battles. However he was not in the 3rd - hopefully we can trace the record of this William now. There have been several reports from different branches of the family that he was a Captain in the Army, and names have been transferred faithfully to later generations  ...  ???

Appreciate your interest - it's fascinating to learn about history this way.
Good luck with your travels.

Jim

Thanks keyboard86, appreciate the response.
The new Family Search Record Pilot Search is very good , much more specific thank goodness.
Hopefully looking for someone who can sight the actual record in case additional notes indicate Army service details, as is the case for two other children.
There is a marriage of William Collier to Susannah Watts Perkins in Norwich
in 1803, however Susannah is described as 'his wife' on the 1795 baptism record of another child. Hence the attempt to clarify the situation.
Thanks again  ... Jim

Antrim / c1825-40 Belfast marriage - James Steen and Mary Ann Glendinning
« on: Tuesday 19 April 11 04:29 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
The wedding certificate at Ballarat, Australia in 1865 of my gg.grandmother Mary Ann Steen indicates she was born in Belfast c1840 to parents James Steen, a grocer, and Mary Ann Glendin(n)ing.
She died in 1880 at Stawell, Australia having three young sons and an adopted daughter. Her husband Thomas Sanderson had been working at a nearby town for a few days. She apparently came to Australia in 1860.
The Minister at her burial was Presbyterian.
I would like to find the wedding record of her parents probably in Belfast between 1825 and 1840.

I see a James Steen is a Provision and General Merchant in Talbot Street in the 1800's. James Steen & Co were proprietors of the the Owen O'Cork Mill in 1850's. A  'brother' William is a Merchant in Hill Street, and possibly another relation Henry nearby. James lived at "Skegoniell".

There is a Glendinning family with a memorial at The New Burying Ground, Clifton Street - William Glendinning and his wife Mary Ann Marshall.
Other Glendinnings indicate the families may have lived near each other in  central Belfast.

Perhaps James Steen was a Chapman from the Townlands  ...  ???
If I can find a wedding record it should help.

Grateful for any assistance  ...  Jim

Hi,
Looking for someone with access to baptism records to confirm the same William COLLIER and Susannah ? are parents for the following children :
Henry Willoughby COLLIER bpt 1796  Colwich
Walter Lewis COLLIER    bpt 1798  Rugeley
George Frederick COLLIER  bpt 1799  Rugeley
Edward John COLLIER  bpt 1800  Rugeley
Horatio COLLIER  bpt 1804  Stafford
Thomas Chichester COLLIER  bpt 1807  Stafford
Many of these names have been passed on to later generations of older sister Sarah's family.
Particularly interested in a note that may give Army rank and regiment of father as found on baptism record of two other children.

Grateful for any assistance  ...  Jim

Hi,
Wondering if anyone can help with a lookup for baptism of William Watts COLLIER in 1793 at Wotton-under-Edge.

His mother was Susanna, and father William COLLIER was probably a Corporal in 3rd Dragoon Guards. Father's occupation has been recorded at some other siblings baptism.  Trying to confirm same parents for various expected children.

Grateful for any assistance  ...  Jim
