Armed Forces / Re: Oxford & Bucks Light Infantry 1920

It may be worth contacting these people as they are helping me with my enquiries on a relative from the OBLI. I am sure they would love a copy of the photo for their research too!  http://www.sofo.org.uk/

World War One / Re: Newbury (Berks) War memorial

Max, I had a look today but couldn't see the name, however, the names for WW1 are not alphabetical so it is possible I could have missed it (WW2 names are alphabetical). The closest I could find was the surname Allen. There were two there, the one closest in name was G. Allen.

If someone else could double-check it for me I'd appreciate it as I was battling an toddler who desperately wanted to chase after the buses going past so it is possible that I missed it!

United States of America / Re: WW2 American Forces Marriages - where to look?
« on: Friday 03 July 09 10:49 BST (UK)  »
Thank you for your reply Jolyon. I should have said in my original post that I think, but don't actually know, that the marriage would have occurred in Austria. I do not know what year it may have been. I wondered if there was a general index for the USA forces like the one you mention in the UK as I would not know where to start if I had to search in individual states.

United States of America / WW2 American Forces Marriages - where to look?
« on: Friday 03 July 09 10:14 BST (UK)  »
I have a relative that married an American after WW2. I would like to try and locate their marriage record (and any other records relating to this if there are any others) but I do not know where to look. A google search has proved fruitless so far. Is there any where that has these records online? If not, is there any way to go about looking for the records by post/email/phone? Any suggestions would be appreciated as I am obviously not looking in the right places if it is available. Many thanks in advance.

The Common Room / Is it possible to buy one off images from Ancestry.com?
« on: Wednesday 29 April 09 12:05 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone. I have an ancestry subscription but not the worldwide one. There is one image that I would like to access that I need a worldwide subscription for, but I don't want to upgrade my subscription as it is likely to be the only image I will ever need to download from outside the UK subscription. Does anyone know if it is possible to pay to download a one off image as even a month subscription seems very high to pay just to access one image? Many thanks

Thank you so much Dinie! That method has worked a treat! I managed to attach Jane to her mother once I had entered in the unknown father as an extra spouse. That problem has been bugging me for ages!

Thank you!!!!!

I am having trouble putting someone into my FTM programme because they are linked into two separate branches as below. When I put the person in twice then try to merge them it tells me it cannot as it is "unable to merge an individual with a direct relative, or create a large number of marriages". Does anyone know how to go about this as I have no idea! Is it even possible or do I have to enter Mary as two separate people and remember to update both records every time I find anything.

This person appears in my tree twice quite closely, I will try to demonstrate below, The Mary who is the same person is shown in red:

                                William
               Horace
                                                     Unknown
                                 Jane
                                                     Mary

Harold

                                 John
                Florence
                                                     Henry
                                 Mary Ann
                                                     Mary
