I should have said that I have been checking back on the Porteous and McNaught families and couldn't find a connection to Bowman except that Janet Porteous's mother Janet Bell had a sister Jane Bell who married James Bowman.  I have also placed a query on the Dumfrieshire post re. Christina Bowman aged 10 on the 1881 census living with James Bowman and wife Jane at Shawhill Farm, Riccarton, Ayrshire a niece and scholar b. Holywood, Dumfrieshire, I could not find a birth record on SP, I've also tried different surnames.  Thank you for the quick responses, Gray865

My Great Grandmother was Jane Bowman McNaught born 1862 to David McNaught and Janet Porteous. Her parents before their marriage were working on neighbouring farms in Coylton, Ayrshire. farmed by Andrew and James Bowman.  My query is, is their a blood relation between Jane and the Bowman family?  Following generations have also used 'Bowman' as a middle name.

In the 1881 census at Shawhill Farm, Riccarton, Ayrshire, Christina Bowman aged 10 b. Holywood, Dumfriesshire is listed as a niece and scholar to James and Jane Bowman. I'm unable to source any records for her - can anyone help.   Gray865

The deceased of this Testament Dative died September 1668.  GR2 - The last word of the previous line of the first section does look like Mar.  Thank you for deciphering this. Gray865

I have scanned the previous line to catch the last letters your querying. Unfortunately when I try to send it, it tells me there is an error and to change the file name!!!?
Thank you for what you have transcribed. It's amazing.  Gray865

Thank you for the transcribing and especially for the explanation. So I'm now wondering who was the Laird of Prestoune not that he would be related.

This is Scottish. I've sectioned it into 4.  I could read the first 4 lines which I haven't included but the rest has defeated me. I hope someone can help.

I have now been along Kingston Road and from the map details supplied above I identified the area where my ancestors lived.  There appears to be a boundary stone wall and plenty of weeds and forestation.  There was no sign of dwellings/stonework but there may have been within the overgrowth.   Gray865
