I have found a marriage record for Sunderland - 29 Dec 1787 - John Miller to Margaret Taylor.
Could someone possibly look at the original to let me know what witnesses etc. might be mentioned?  Many thanks.  Jenny

Lancashire / Caton Graveyard
« on: Saturday 15 August 15 20:35 BST (UK)  »
I have found a site, the "Lancashire Family History and Heraldry Society", with a list of interments for St Paul the Parish Church of Caton with Littledale.  On the list is a Hugh Miller of Sunderland, Co Durham, the father in law of the Rev Samuel Bell of that parish who is also buried in the same graveyard along with two of his children and his wife.  Infuriatingly, by his name it says Image pending SPB /C/3/5

Would anyone know where I could get hold of a copy of the inscription on the stone for Hugh Miller?
Thank you.

Canada / John Shaw and Marion Grant
« on: Sunday 26 July 15 19:29 BST (UK)  »
I have the following two entries for Marion Grant who I believe to be my Marion Grant, born Knockando, Morayshire 1788 to my 4xGreat Grandparents William and Anne Grant.

Moray Libindx:  Shaw, Marion nee Grant c. 1787, spouse John Shaw of Strathspey, death 18th March 1871, Halton County Canada
Halton News:  Shaw - at her residence, 5th Line, Equesning, County of Halton,on the 18th inst., Marion Grant, relict of John Shaw, a native of Strathspey, Morayshire, Scotland, aged 84 years.

I have a birth for a James Grant to John Shaw and Minnie Grant in 1811 with the place of birth given as "Bridge of Curr" which is the hamlet of about 5 houses where my Marion Grant's parents had relocated by that time and is further down the Spey from Knockando near Grantown.
I can't find a marriage for Marion/Minnie to a John Shaw.
I also have the 1860 and 1870 censuses for John, James and Marion Shaw in Equesning, Ontario, Canada which shows John Shaw still alive in 1860 aged 80 so c.1780 d.o.b.  Scotlands People have thirty five John Shaw baptisms 2 years either side of that date!
I have the widow Marion's death cert in 1871 giving her place of birth as Murrayshire, Scotland.
I have James and his mother Marion buried in Fairview Cemetery, Halton County, Ontario.

I've looked at this one 'til I'm blue in the face but I'm not very good at Canada.  North East Scotland is my thing.  Could some kind soul have a go at the following:

A death cert or stone for John Shaw or anything that might indicate where in Scotland he originated.
Any information on when they emigrated to Canada.
Any information on them in Equesning in the early days.

Many thanks.

Moray (Elginshire) / Lynelish
« on: Saturday 16 May 15 10:31 BST (UK)  »
I have come across a couple of references to the word "Lynelish", referring to a place just up the Dulnain from Dulnain Bridge - a mention in the Lauder book on the flood of 1829 and then a parliamentary report on repairing the bulwarks at Lynelish after the floods.  I also noticed a distillery history at Brora saying that they had built the 19thC building next to the "old lynelish".  Can anyone tell me what a lynelish was?

Moray (Elginshire) / Anne Stewart
« on: Saturday 04 April 15 10:29 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for a monumental inscription for Anne Stewart/Stuart.   I have her death in Grantown in 1860 aged 85 giving her husband as Donald McIntosh, mason and feuar, and her parents as Donald Stewart, meal miller and farmer deceased, and Ann Stewart, m.s. Gordon stating the burial ground as Inverallan.

There is a stone listed in Inverallan for a Donald McIntosh late mason Grantown 28.4.1849 which could be her husband but nothing for her.  Can anyone help?

Moray (Elginshire) / Knockando Gravestone
« on: Sunday 30 November 14 13:49 GMT (UK)  »
I was wondering if someone might have a photograph of a gravestone in Knockando to William Miller and his wife Elizabeth Cumming.  According to Alison Mitchell, the stone reads:

Wm Miller of Tomdow 10. 1794 75, w. Eliz Cumming 11. 1788 72 da Margt 17 10 1789, ss John, Chas, Hugh ed.

I have come across an entry on another list of graves where they give the sons who erected the stone as John Charles and Hugh, i.e. 2 sons not three.  The John Charles is listed in its own box as one person.  I would have thought it a misprint except that I have a John Charles, a grandson to the Charles or John Charles Miller mentioned on the stone, in my tree.  I have found lots of information on the brothers John and Hugh but am struggling to find anything on Charles apart from his being father to two illegitimate children.  I was hoping to look at the stone to see if I can make it out one way or the other.

Many thanks
